My daddy was a preacher, my granddaddy and three uncles but until I wrote a review of a book on the observance of the Holiday I didn't know what the hell Lent was.

I was raised in Missionary Baptist Churches. We celebrated Easter (by dressin up, hunting Easter Eggs, mostly)

Any NON CATHOLICS have a similar experience.

Lent is the forty days before Easter. Beginning with Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Lent is symbolic for the 40 days JC spent in the wilderness.

In New Orleans, doesn't Lent end with Mardi Gras? Jeeze, Chris! All my life I've heard people talk about giving something up for Lent, meaning that for 40 days they would refrain from indulging a bad habit as a form of penance.

"Lent" is also what I did with some money I had, and my grandson better pay me back. Hope I don't have to put a hit out on him.
