it seems like every month (week?) there is another "hollywood" romantic film featuring young white people. it seems like 100 of these typesof films are made every year.
whether or not its kate winslett, jack black, cameron diaz (yes i know what i said about cameron diaz), and jude law in "the holiday".
kirsten dunst and orlando bloom in "elizabethtown".
sandra bullock and keanu reeves in "the lake house".
the the newest "white hollywood romance" about to come out starring sienna miller and hayden christiannsen (i forgot the name).
i could go on and on and on naming these type of films that deal with serious romances between the lead characters. the leads are ALWAYS white actors.
does "hollywood" even think that black people have the potential to be on the "big screen" in a REAL love story?
think about it.
i have trouble coming up with 5 love stories with black leads.
if its a black film with a black man in drag- GREEN LIGHT!!!!!!
if its a "shoot-em up" in the "hood" film- GREEN LIGHT!!!!!!
if it's negroes singing and dancing-GREEN LIGHT!!!!!!!!
but where the HELL are the serious love stories about black people?
ok- the film "LOVE JONES", i thought was a positive (realistic) story about black people and romance.
but how many years ago was that film?
will smith was in "hitch", which had a "romantic theme", but his female co-star was not a black female.
do black people in america even want to see serious films about black people and their relationships?
does hollywood want to make these films?
why has one of the biggest film stars (black or white) denzel washington never been in a major hollywood film that is about a romantic relationship?
and im not talking about denzel in "mo' betta blues".
i mean if it were not for a handful of black directors (such as spike lee), would we EVER see black romance on screen?
i understand that "hollywood" is the way it is.
but come on, compare how many "white love stories" are made every year in hollywood, and how many "black love stories" are made.
its got to be 40 (white love stories) to every 1 black love story. and it might even be worse than that.
do we as a people have ANY desire to see these kind of films?
and i "get" that we can't "wait" for white "hollywood" to begin to make these kind of films.
but can "hollywood" make 1 or 2 of these kind of films?
or will "hollywood" keep turning out the kind of "garbage" that we see involving black people?
do we really need another "black film", involving a "dance off" between black 20-somethings?
its insulting that black love stories are almost NON-EXISTENT in hollywood.
can someone please name some recent major motion pictures that had black lead characters in romantic roles?
you maybe hard pressed to think of any.
and im not talking about a "tyler perry" film. |

This is ridiculous.
The majority of the movie viewing audience is white.
They don't want to see a black love story.
Why is it you can't figure this out? |

My, my. Didn't you folks see "Guess Who"? This was black love story. Of course, "Juliet" was black and "Romeo" was white and Bernie Mac was buck-eyed. Well, - I guess it was really an interracial love story with Demi Moore's boytoy doing a very unconvincing job of being color blind. |

chrishayden, i GET the fact that the majority of the movie going audience is white. we live in a majority white country.
i GET this.
that wasn't the point.
i GET that hollywood will cater to its majority audience.
but there is a VERY SUBSTANTIAL "black share" of the movie going audience.
just because the "majority white movie going audience" doesn't want to see "black romantic films", that means hollywood shouldn't make them?
chrishayden, do you think the majority white movie going audience wants to see films like "drumline"? what about "waist deep"? what about "big momma's house"? what about tyler perry's films.
does the mass white movie going audience want to see films like "juice", "boyz in da hood", or "menace to society"?
i DON'T think the mass white movie going audience has ANY desire to see these "black" films.
yet hollywood MAKES them.
yeah chrishayden, i GET the fact that white audeninces don't want see a "black romantic film".
I GET IT.
the point is that hollywood makes all types of other "black" films, but not love stories starring black people.
do you (chrishayden) think that there were alot of white people the opening night of "diary of a mad black woman"?
i don't think so.
yet this film was made.
