The movie didn't get a Best Pic nom, but JHud, Eddie Murphy did.
Forest Whitaker and Will Smith got nominations too!!
Is that just too much black for the Academy?

I've not considered all of the possible competion. But I HONESTLY do not find Dreamgirls to be worthy of a Best Picture nomination.

The movie is fairly good, but the writing probably was not of Oscar caliber.

I think Jennifer Hudson definitely deserves her Oscar, but the film itself wasn't on the caliber of a "Best Picture" IMO.

Though I wish I could say it were that "great", there were a lot of flaws, and to me--the 2nd Act of that play (or movie) has never held water. There's this great 1st act and then the story just meanders into some heartwarming happy ending.

Beyonce cheated us by not playing the "real" Diana Ross.

A lot of the music doesn't sound like that period and doesn't hold up, but Jennifer Hudson made everything she sung into a new classic.

The movie really is only a hit because of Jennifer Hudson.

Eddie Murphy was excellent, too, but Jaime Foxx was "mis-cast".
