for those film fans out there, you might have seen a beautiful young actress named zoe saldana in a few films. she has recently been cast as the leading lady in a huge blockbuster (sorry i forgot the film) slated to be realesed in the summer of '08.

after hearing much of the gushing about jennifer hudson, i thought i'd bring up another talented BLACK actress.

now my question is, how many forum members feel she is a "black" actress?

i feel she definately is a BLACK actress.

i'd love to know from those who might say she is not a black actress,

why is she NOT a black actress?

i think we should be as proud of her and her acting talent, as we are of jennifer hudson.

two young BLACK actresses achieving great things on the silver screen.

here are a few pics of ZOE SALDANA.

here are a few pics of jada pinkett and joy bryant, two BLACK actresses.

DO THEY LOOK DIFFERENT?

i don't think so.

let us ALL support these BEAUTIFUL BLACK actresses.

zoe saldana is BLACK, right?

i think she is.

who could disagree with this?

zoe phenotypically black; she is, in other words, of African ancestry; her parents are from the Domican Republic, an island, colonized by the Spanish but used Africans for free labor.

The only 'beautiful' thing about your assertion is that if you ask Zoe Saldana, she will profess (as she has done REPEATEDLY) that she is NOT black. Many BLACK Dominicans (HAITIANS) are infamous for that.

LOL....

She looks black to me and I wouldn't have questioned it.....but I wonder how convinced you are if you have to ask. She's not even light enough to look "light skinned", much less "mixed". So what is your point in asking?

Do you just want us to confirm FOR YOU that she's black? Because anyone who thinks Cameron Diaz is black clearly has some sight issues. OK...we'll confirm for you....this girl IS black. You did good.

if she doesn't want to claim that she's black, then perhaps she should start going after hispanic roles. anyone who plays a role as bernie mac's daughter is definitly not denying that they are black. i'm willing to bet that if she tried to get on telemundo (or any other spanish speaking media) that she wouldn't get a gig anytime soon.

In an article I read about Ms. Saldana, she described herself as "Blatina." She said she speaks English and fluent Spanish, and that people are always shocked when they find out that she can speak Spanish because they see her only as Black, but she embraces both her Black American upbringing and her Dominican Afro-Latino roots.

If I find the article, I'll post it.

I agree, Lil_ze, Zoe is a pretty young woman, and her star is definitely on the rise.

Many people feel they shouldn't ignore one blood-line in favor of another. They define themselves and they are entitled to do this.

I like that blatina...peeps in my family have similar terms to describe themselves. The fact of the matter is, some black folk are so caught up on who is and is not black, they forget that phenotype is only one component of a person's identity, especially if they are not African American. We need to tease out what these terms mean, for example.

Many of the Africans on this site do not call themselves black. Why is that? Well, when they use the term black, they are talking about color and ancestry. When they use African, in general, they are talking about place of birth, ancestry, and culture. So, in many cases, there is miscommunication.

With that said, we must remember, that people from the Spanish Caribbean, like us, were colonized, and therefore a significant componentof their culture includes the Spanish language [ours english it aint African] their color issues [our color issues] all of this derived from Africans relationship w/European colonizers.

Who's Zoe Saldana? And why should anyone be concern about whether or not she considers herself to be Black?

I personally love Zoe Saldana. I think that she is a beautiful young woman. However, her Gabrielle Union, and Meagon Good are extremely underrated. I hope to see more movies from her in the future.

ok nels, than forgetting about the "one drop rule",

what is zoe saldana?

if she's ONLY black according to the odr, than what is she in places where there is no odr?

its funny, posing a question about an actress is "looking for drama"?

what type of post constitutes "looking for drama", and what type of post is "not looking for drama"?

i suppose if a certain poster doesn't LIKE the post, the person who put up the post is "looking for drama".

that makes sense.
