If he had show I could see me watching it. I’m drawn to his lively, flamboyant personality. Don’t know if he’s gay or not but he gives me the impression that he’s the type of gay man who enjoys being cute and feisty, and even a little bitchy now and then, and having a hilariously hysterical good time. Although I'm sure my eldest daughter has tried to watch 106th & Park when my wife and I are away, my kids don't watch BET either.
I've tried, over the years, to watch BET. But I can't help but feel offended by so much of what BET airs that I almost always change stations 5 minutes into whatever the hell it is I'm watching.
But I think BET has auxillary station (at least its on my DirectTV) that airs more mature and serious programming. I saw a very enlightening documentary about James Brown shortly after he'd died. And I also saw a talkshow titled My Two Cents. Interestingly, the segment I watched included a panel discussion that featured your good buddy Keith Boykin.

Yeah, ABM,
Keith Boykin has his own show on BET Jazz (which was BET J) and Keith's a huge supporter (did you know that Derrick Bell was his teacher at HARVARD and they're still close friends?)--Keith's the only person who sent me a "personalized" Happy New Year's and I love him.
Him being "gay"---I think he's waiting for me to come to N.Y. so he can see if I'm really a woman or not. LOL!
My gay fans are convinced I'm a "hormonal girl".
WHICH I AM NOT!
(*if only they KNEW what infibulation did to my hormones, I probably need some. LOL)
But I'm not offended anymore since I learned that Ciara, Naomi Campbell, Grace Jones and Cher all went through the same thing with their gay fans.

Yes, I'm a Fag-Head although I HATE THE WORD "Fag". I really detest it.
No, of course, lesbians don't like me as much as gay men----what gay men do is sort of "fettish" you as a kind of SUPER HERO, to gay men who like me, I'm the real life "STORM"----
BLACK lesbian women seem, however, seem to appreciate that I completely support their lesbianism and have said so publicly---and they also identify with MUCH of what I have to say as a womanist.
Still, I'm more popular with Gay men.
And the "B", I had assumed was just the INVERSION of my last name with my first.
But hell, you're a guy, so maybe I plumb overlooked that it was a reference to my boobs.
Since they only hang TOPLESS pics of me in the gay clubs, I'm assuming that you could be right.

UNITY is a huge "GAY" black church with like a 1,000 members and it's wonderful. I often use their slogan in my books "Love is for everyone" so that when gay black readers come across it---they feel connected to me.
You may remember that line from "Flesh and the Devil", ABM.
But it resonates with the membership of UNITY CHURCH (and there's several across the country).

ABM,
Though it's tough loving men---I can't imagine not getting the sausage stored in my refrigerator bins.
Not to sound cold, but I just LOVE men from a physiological standpoint----you guys have "rough knees"--such a fucking turn on. Big hands, big musucluar hairy legs and strong arms, rough faces and just all around "hardness". Deep authoritive voices, the smell of "nature" more than women, of course the DICK and BALL set (yum!) and I love men's conquering minds and their curiosity and wonder about life. Men are boyish yet brutal. Men are GOD when it comes to love, but they are also ruthless abusers and can be shockingly selfish.
I really LOVE men.
I am a damaged, abused person, so I have "pathologies" about sex and getting down---I'm a virtual freak---but I have learned to accept myself and to ENJOY my pain. And I CRAVE men---especially Black ones.
ABM...I stopped with Donovan Salomon because of fear of losing our "friendhsip" over fucking, because I don't believe he could be SERIOUS about me, and we have such a cultural-intellectual connection...I don't want to lose that.
Though I'm not currently dating, I masturbate to images (dreams) of men.
And when I do get a chance to really date--which should be around September (I have a LOT of touring and hard work coming up all until summer)---so when I do start dating, I already have tons of black men lined up.
My LOVE for gay people...is because they ACCEPT ME as myself and celebrate me with all my flaws.
Because I'm not gay---I don't feel threatened by their sexuality. AT ALL.
Then again, I've noticed that MOST Africans from Nilotic cultures don't fear homosexuals. It was once, before the Christians and Muslims came, a part of our "religious culture" on the Nile---many of our ancient Gods/Angels are depicted with both a penis and vagina on one body, and the men and women bathed separately and had sex---Nefertiti had "maidens", every home in ancient times had "house boys", "Eunuchs" were a reality back then. But then again--we used "cocaine" in our culture 20,000 years ago, too, so.

Though I enjoy making fun of much of the socio-political manifestations of it homosexuality (e.g., gender-blending dressing, discourse and affectations), I also accept homosexuality as a natural part of the human (animal) ecology.
My only REAL reservations of homosexuality might pertain to extent to which it might lessen the desire and likelihood of men and women to cooperate and to mate & raise children together. I believe the inate demands of women help to CIVILIZE to men. And the inate demands of men help give PURPOSE to women.
TOO MUCH homosexuality would disturb that most delicately necessary balance of humanity.
Don't get me started on how I feel about the look, smell and taste of a woman. I would be here all day (and night) long. |
