I don’t know if it’s been posted here before but this is an interesting article that demonstrates how disloyal mixed blacks have been to authentic ones. And that hasn't changed so I don't get how blacks can believe mixing will save our future. I saw it at another site and it reminded me of the colorism on here:

Great information.
How about New Orleans and the "Seventh Ward"--a phrase that refers to haughty redbones, decendants of unauthentic blacks that owned slaves, most of whom were NEVER SLAVES THEMSELVES.
Most AUTHENTIC BLACKS in New Orleans have a clear understanding of how these animals have used them to attain/ sustain wealth and privilege.
"Funny" how those who lost the most during Katrina were of the darkest hue. This is NO coincidence. |

The majority of urban black slaveowners were women. In 1820, free black women represented 68 percent of heads of households and 70 percent of slaveholding heads of colored households. The large percentage of black women slaveowners is explained by the combined effects of manumission (by their white masters for whom they fathered children), inheritance (from their white masters, relatives, and even husbands who had a higher mortality rate than women), and personal industry once they were free. Black women were the majority of slaves emancipated by white slave owning men with whom they had had sexual relations. The miscegenous nature of South Carolina society is nowhere better revealed than by the fact that 33 percent of all the recorded colonial manumissions were mulatto children and 75 percent of all adult manumissions were females.
Were these free black slaveholder/mistresses back-stabbing, "betrayer-of-the-black-man" females Black or MULATTO? I think that a clear distinction should be made here; it seems kind of shady that there isn’t. Darker skinned Blk women are the ones being blamed TODAY for this very thing, by black men. |

Slavery could not have thrived if "authentic" blacks hadn't participated in the slave trade by selling each other down the river. Treachery has no skin color and all of these "authentics" so proud of who they are and so disdainful of light-skinned blacks, seem to ignore the fact that their ancestry can be traced to those who were victims of other "authentic" blacks who bargained them away to white slave hunters. |

I really ain't understanding all the color divides on this board. I don't. Any reason to hate NOT whites, but blacks with a different shade of brown skin is justified on this board.
It's sad and sick.
Being a darker black woman (and I've said this before) I don't give a damn about who's lighter than me nor will I feel inadequate or have low self esteem about my beautiful, even skintone.
Lightskinned women/men are in my family and LOVE me. Why on earth would I have any animosity towards LS people as a whole? |

Taking pride in oneself does NOT equal hating those who are different. That's why I don't get the whole skin color crap on this forum. If you're confident within yourself and feel good about yourself, then no one can make you feel inferior. These "authentic Blacks" who hoot and holler about lightskinned this and that do so because THEY don't feel good about themselves. Sad.
In most cases when I encounter people like this, I know their life story. While growing up, somebody, usually one of their relatives, called them "tar baby" or "blackie" or some other stupid word or showed preference to a lighter hued sibling, and as a result they BELIEVED that light skin was better. Since they couldn't do a damn thing to make themselves lighter, they decided to hate lightskinned people and, if they had the power to, would kick light Blacks out the race just because they can't be light, too. Sad.
If you notice, it's always the same people saying the same things. Some of them have been at it, on this forum alone, for 5 years. And what have they accomplished?
NOTHING!
It's tired. It's counterproductive. It's childish. I don't know whether to:

Let's talk about where your "authentic Black" ass would be today if it wasn't for: Adam Clayton Powell, W.E.B. DuBois, Thurgood Marshall, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Julian Bond, Charles Rangle, several members of the Black Panther Party, Booker T. Washington, Langston Hughes, Andrew Young, Muhammad Ali, James P. Beckwourth, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Katherine Dunham, James Weldon Johnson, Ida B. Wells, to name a few.
All of these "unauthentic Blacks" and MANY, MANY others like them paved the way for your "authetic Black" asses to sit in front of a computer in the 21st Century and talk shit about how "disloyal" lightskinned Blacks and mulattoes are. Sad.

Your post rated 5 stars with me, Urban_scribe! It was such a refreshing change from all of the ill wind that blows on this site. I hate that I get cast in the role as somebody who is color conscious because I am not. Color is never a subject that I broach because I prefer to judge people by the content of the character, not the color of their skin. But I have a lot of unflattering references to my color hurled at me and I refuse to lay down and play dead and allow people to try and lay guilt trips on me. So when I am contemptuously called a "red-bone", I respond with the despicable label of "tar baby". These "authentics" have to be shown that name-calling works both ways. |

Mzuri and I are both capable enough to take up for ourselves, brownbootie, especially against 2 lame brains like you and Toubootie. You 2 present no real challenges. Its just more fun to work in tandem with Mzuri. And "fun" is the key word here because nobody takes you 2 mopes seriously. LMAO. |

But unfortunately, the so-called self proclaimed "authentic Negroes" will continue to hurl insults and vitriol against their perceived tormentors -blacks whose skin is lighter than theirs. Not much you can do to interject common sense or logic into their faux pas world of skin color dementia and psychosis. Their subconscious minds are ravaged with insecurity, feelings of inferiority and self doubt. As a result, a scape goat is needed. So, the only way they can purge themselves of their misguided self loathing is to project it onto individuals who personally have nothing to do with their comically absurd delusions of "authenticity". But ya know, as sick as it is, it does make me laugh. Ha! Ha! ha! Ha!

But it's the dark-skinned people that are being fucked the most WHENEVER ANYBODY DECIDES TO SELLOUT BLACKS.. so we don't see it as "no big deal."
What you're saying is akin to a white person saying that Black folks shouldn't complain because everybody discriminates against them--the Jews, the Arabs, the Asians, the Hispanics, the sell-out Blacks... and we would never for such.
I think it's atrocious that people like you want to foil the attempts dark-skinned folks make to express their feeling and share their concerns with one another. As a sister, regardless of color, you should be encouraging such, not trying to prevent it. The info that Shemika posted is something we ALL should want to acknowledge, set straight and heal from. We should. But whatever the case might be, darkskinned ppl should not be expected to stand for those who don't. |

Tonya...i never denied that Darkskin people recieve the brunt of the descrimination...and you should really know better than to accuse me of not caring and trying to "silence" dark skin peoples voice because ive spoken out agaisnt colorism that's geared at dark skin people so many times on this board.

no it's not...bUT i view the black white issue the same way that i view the dark skin light skin issue......we've all had a hand in the oppression of black people rather black or white...and all blacks rather light, dark male or female have had a hand in selling out.
that doesnt mean that i deny that black people face the brunt of racism or that dark skin people face the brunt of colorism.....i'm simply telling the truth about what i see....no one group can be held more responsible for the state that black people are in....when it comes to selling out im jsut being real...we've ALL had a hand in that....so i dont see the need in pointing the finger at one group.
i have no problem with dark skin women venting about their problems or confiding in eachother and i dont get why you would assume that just because i admitted the truth about all of us being traitors.

Blacks never even had the power to "sellout" black folks THE WAY white folks have. The same goes for dark-skinned folks compared to light-skinned folks, according to HISTORY (some of the info in the opening post) and to several recent studies. All of this is common knowledge Misty, and so I don't believe you when you say that you were "simply telling the truth." ...You're too bright to believe such nonsense. But look...I'm sorry for coming at you like that. Now that I've reread what I wrote, I was kind of harsh..especially the first sentence of the last paragraph, wow. But I like you (I really do) and ironically that is why I felt I could be so frank. However, you are right.. I did go too far, sorry. |

hey tonya,
no need to apologize....i've always liked you too and feel that you bring alot of intelligence and insight to the board. anyway, sorry i didnt reply yesterday....i wasnt home yesterday much at all.
as far as blacks not having as much power to hold other blacks back....I had to sit down and think about that one because really i use to beleive like that but when you really look examine the picture you see that that's not true. 50% of this stuff is actually OUR doing because we allow it and we reinforce whtie supreimsts will on our children.
we do have more power than many of us would like to admit. alot of this stuff starts in the home...if you teach your children that white is right and that anything closer to white is better then you are obviously reinforcing the color caste system. plus we hold eachother back everytime we decide to kill, rape or defraud one another. everytime you have black jurors who use colorism to decide rather or not a criminal is guilty or should be executed, we hold eachother back....alot of our problems would go away if we would just stop THAT madness alone. sure the system has to change but we also have to do our part to stop oppressng our own group.
as far as light skinned blacks having more power to sell out the black race...to me that's so far from the truth.....i realize that darker skin blacks may have it worst but guess who taught the colorism to the light children??? darker skin people came before lighter skin people...so who were the ones who taught their children the colorism?....also who sold us over here? Lighterskinned blacks have more power partly because the darker ones GIVE them the power and seriously beleive they SHOULD be in the front of the black race representing us the most.
