Nappy hair has body. When it is blown out it comes into its own. It will also stay braided and braids can be styled. Perms tame its wildness by making it limp. Hair is hair and "nappy" along with "kinky" are descriptive words to describe the texture of hair. But a long time ago those words got a bad rap because it was hard to comb nappy hair, and it was therefore designated as being "bad." | ||

I recently went "natural". I have very very nappy hair. I've been feeling a bit vulnerable. Today my Chinese male neighbor talked at length how beautiful my hair texture is, how pretty I look with my new 'do and he asked me "how I get it like this". He said he loves it way more than my old style (permed). My family on the other hand think I've lost my mind to wear my "tough" "coarse" hair without a perm up in it. | ||

I LOVE that my (nappy) hair is "wild and crazy." ...The nappier, The better, is the way I like sporting it. I HATE that it takes soooooo long to air-dry… which is what is needed in order to get it looking as kinky as I’m fond of wearing it. (When I blow dry it, it loses it's "funk!") And I LIKE that it (my hair) responds well to just about any leave-in conditioner.... I can go on the cheap, lol!!!! | ||

I really love what i can do with it....but i hate that it's so dry and takes alot of hair lotion to make it shiney and it requires alot more upkeep. my hair appears to be about the same texture as the 3rd girl in your 6th post...the one wearing the blue and eating the apple...sometimes it looks like hers when i wear it in twist outs depending on how big or small i do the twists.. | ||

I like BIG hair. I'm trying to get big hair like Chaka Khan or Diana Ross, but BIGGER. Right now, it's right at my bra strap, but when it dries, it looks about past shoulder length. I have it texturized....so it can be manageable at this length...but it still looks nappy and I can still wear afro looking styles. I'll never have my hair relaxed straight again. Iused to keep going back and forth: cut it really short, when it gets to my shoulder it's too hard to manage, so I relax it, wear it straight for a few months, get really bored with it and cut it short and wear it natural again. This is a really good medium. Also, you only need to touch it up once a year because the new growth looks so much like the rest of it. I'm very happy with it like this. The most gorgeous look to me is a braid out where I fluff my hair up really big. I've always wanted to wear my hair in a short cute style like the girl in the second picture.....but you basically have to trim it ever other weekend....no time for that! The trick to combing it is buying a very large toothed comb and a "vent" brush. Those smaller combs are only good for pulling hair out. |
