Hi I've just inherited the African American Literature Book Club at our library since the previous facilitator has retired. I'm very excited, but I'm a 23 year old white girl and I DONT want to be taken wrong in any of our discussions...PLEASE give me some feedback on how i can facilitate discussion without being offensive....HELPPPPPPPPP

Just be yourself and say whatever's on your mind.

And be prepared for others to do the same.

Welcome :-)

And what's your name?

My name is Melissa and I'm an Information Services Librarian in IL. I'm really excited about doing the club...I just don't want to be taken wrong! :-)

Hi Melissa.

Don't worry, I'll protect you.

Just be yourself and say what you feel. It's a very harsh board, but it's fun and in time you will be family.

I always really admired librarians. :-)

When I was a teen, I practically lived in the library and became so close to my librarians. They're the nicest people on earth.

Also, Melissa, you might want to order a copy of my latest book for your library:

I think you already carry "Long Train" and "Flesh and the Devil" by Kola Boof.

Hi melissa, I'm also 23 and I currently work at a library too. Well, mostly shelving books, but I also spent my high school years in my local public library. There aren't alot of people our age involved in literature or libraries, so don't get discouraged. Keep doing what you are doing. I'll protect you too. :-)
