Hi, it's Kola.
This really SERIOUS to me.
Tonight, during my interview on "Intimate with Paula Edwards"--she mentioned how several people in our "clique" here in L.A. (artists, writers) have whispered to her that my oldest son looks exactly like Osama Bin Laden.
This is NOT true...and as a mother, it disturbs me greatly.
I believe that the "power of suggestion" is causing people's imaginations to see....what they want to see.
It's extremely painful and it's completely unfounded.
My son looks...exactly like his father. A beautiful, wonderful dark skinned black man from Belize.
In fact, both my sons look like their father spit them out.
People can be very cruel.
But it can be devastating to the psyche of innocent young children....and although I can't remove Paula's comments from the show; I hope that others would not spread this ugly rumor. Because it's not true.

P.S. I'm not blaming Paula in the least. We're good friends and I'm just glad that she told me what people are saying behind my back.

Kola--- stay as far away from that bitch as possible. Journalists have no souls. They sold them to the devil. They have to if they want a career.;)
anyway,
How are your boys?
Has this effected them in any way yet?
The word hasn't spread to the kid's circle yet has it? |

Roxie, thanks for caring enough to offer supporting comments.
The boys are fine.
The media tried to photograph my oldest son at his elementary school years ago because of this (you can find news article about it at GOOGLE)--so he's already had to deal with it and he's fine.
Unfortunately, it's not really Paula's fault---she innocently thought my son was Osama's because these people doing the "whispering" have seen my sons in person.
Carmen Bin Laden has not said anything (yet) about me in the press.
We were never having a meeting. Public figures don't have to meet to diss each other or challenge each other in the press.

She said that on the air? Not in private? If I were you I would never grant her another interview ever again in life. You might consider having ppl provide you their questions in advance so that something like that doesn't happen again. |

Hi Mzuri,
Let me clarify what happened, because I honestly think that Paula is innocent.
Several months ago---
I was invited to a Writer's Workshop Colony PICNIC.....just tons of black writers.....and I took my sons with me.
I had no idea that all through the picnic that day...people were whispering and convincing each other that my oldest boy looks like Bin Laden.
He doesn't. But they were bored and had nothing else to do.
Paula wasn't there.
But people casually called her and told her that my kids were there--"the tall one looks just like his daddy...Osama" they would say. And stuff like, "Poor Kola. She must suffer having a kid whose face reminds her of that man every day of her life."
Paula innocently just assumed that my child is by OSAMA and that everyone already knows.
The confusion during the interview was because---my son doesn't look like Osama nor do I ever think of people thinking something like that.
Paula has really apologized and she thought since everything's in my autobiography--that would be in there, too.
She was really sorry. She cried.

Well, if it's fine with you then it's fine with me. But you would think that because your innocent children are involved, that as a common courtesy and a simple human kindness, she would have asked you about it prior to your interview being live on the air or being taped. Or asked you if that subject was even open for discussion. Instead of putting you on the spot, causing embarrassment to you, your family and herself. If interviewing is part of her career, that should have been a no-brainer. She's crying and sorry about it now, but the damage is done and it could have been avoided thru a little thoughtfulness/consideration. There's a major difference between whisperings at a picnic or BBQ and gossip over the airwaves. Things heard over the airwaves tend to have more credence. Those are just my thoughts on the matter. |

I agree Mzuri.
I'm just trying to be forgiving...because I face so much fighting and hostility in my life from so many different sides....I find myself working extra hard to get along with those Sisters and Brothers who support me, even when they do fuck up.
I love you for having my back so vocally and caring about my boys.
They're my world.

I'm with Roxie here....... if she's a part of your clique, she couldn't have asked you BEFORE the interview, instead of waiting to embarrass you, a friend, on radio? |
