Does anyone else come from a southern family? And if so, does your family practice the funeral tradition of photographing the deceased as they lie in state? |

I'm not from the South, but I did find a picture of my grandfather laying in wake that was taken in Ohio forty years ago. I also have a very close friend who has a number of pictures of her husband in wake who died in 1997. Both were born and raised in Ohio. And I have a friend who has a picture of his sister in wake who died in 1999. It was taken in Chicago were they both were raised. I don't think it is necessarily a Southern tradition. Or least one that I am aware of. |

Roxie.... My family is from the south and YES I have also experienced some of my relatives taking pictures at the wake. I personally would never ever do such a thing. I can barely look at the casket let alone take a picture of someone lying dead in a coffin. I believe my grandma has pictures she has kept of various relatives and friends. The south often has weird and confusing traditions... I find it borderline disrespectful... |
