As an American citizen Louis Farrakhan is the leader of the 90's for the Black Americans of the U.S. Louis Farrakhan a 62 year-old patriarch of the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan is the father of nine children, and his wife is at the age of 41. Farrakhan c ame honestly to his belief in family tradition. Critics of Louis Farrakhan and the nation of Islam often take a demanding approach to their alleged bigotry. Wildy perceived as a publicity-hungry, hate-spouting extremist, he has somehow managed to mobilize black America when more moderate leaders like Rev. Jesse Jackson could not. Many believe that Farrakhan has always been a man of many faces. Even blacks are divided about his appeal. In his short term Louis Farrakhan excoriated homosexuals, called the Jewish people "Bloodsuckers," and demonized Whites, Asians, and Arabs. "It's the whites who have done the dividing in America," he said to People Weekly magazine. Many people believe that Louis Farrakhan is very racist, and that he only thinks that one race is superior than any other race. Once Collin Powell compared Farrakhan to the white Mark Fuhrman, the racist perjury-committing L.A. cop of OJ Simpson fame. Of American ci tizens polled overall, 41 percent of African-Americans view Louis Farrakhan unfavorably, and 41 view him favorably, while 60 percent of white people have an unfavorable opinion of him. (Newsweek October, 95' p.83-88) From the beginning, Louis Farrakhans' Black Muslim deciples have believed that all non-black races are products of a prehistoric breeding experiment conducrted on the island of Patmos by Dr.Yacub, a malcontent exiled from an original black Eden centerd in Mecca. Louis Farrakhn racist or righteous, what do you think?

I believe that he's very racist, and I really don't like or trust the upper levels of the NOI. However, the average NOI guys, the ones you see on the street everyday selling papers, seem sincere. They are MUCH MORE respectful to black women and black people than non-NOI that I've met, and make it a point to treat even strangers like family. And a sight to see is their children getting on or off the bus. They don't have even a HINT of the attitude/vulgarity apparent in other kids their age. This probably happens everywhere, but in Atlanta, when school kids 12 and up get on the bus, they grab each other, pull hair, fight, scream, push each other off the bus, and curse like sailors on a GOOD DAY. The NOI children behave themselves as if their parents were sitting directly next to them. I once asked a guy why they sold papers on the street, and he said that it's to teach them humility, so they learn not to be ashamed to work anywhere else. Southern men have a terrible shame of working in fast food and "low level" employment. So, to me at least, the members of NOI seem respectful and like they're trying to honor each other and build their community. But, I don't really trust Farrakhan. You have to consider, though, that even cult members are sincere, no matter what the leader may be up to. |

I also think that perhaps other people think he's racist too, but they see that he gets results in the behavior of those who follow him. That's why my own cousin, a CHRISTIAN, is trying to get NOI members to move to MS and set up a community. |

Righteous... brilliant, learned, educated, informed, intelligent, articulate, talented... Not perfect...human. And definitely not "racist". White folk call a Black man who says "whites divided America" and who refers to Jews as "bloodsuckers" racist AND Black folk agree. Ain't dat a blip? I don't really know what the minister is up to these days. I don't follow... However, I developed great admiration and respect for him during my childhood and teen years and I admire and respect him still.

The man is a vehement racist. His racist comments and railings are well documented. I have a number of his speeches that were broadcasted on a public television channel. If he were white, he would have been a black George Rockwell. Being that I have personal experiences with the NOI, I would know this. |

--"You have to consider, though, that even cult members are sincere, no matter what the leader may be up to."-- I can agree with that, Renata. Unlike most cultmembers, some of those NOI members do seem to have a mind of their own. ^_^ |

The question must be asked? Righteous or Racist.. I see Louis Farrahkan as a friend to black people, and to all people on the planet. Only a lover of righteousness can stand up, when so many of our leaders are sitting down, allowing evil to appear fair seeming. |

Whether I like Farrakhan or not, when you consider the respect his followers have for their community and their women, and the respect their children have for each other, you have to admit that he must be doing something right. |
