Hey Kola No put downs here...just a plain old HAPPY NEW YEAR! And whatever you decide to do-have a wonderful time ringing it in. I plan on cuddling up with my hubbie, having a toast of bubbly and eating strawberries. Not very exciting for many, but a peaceful end to a very long, turbulent year. On behalf of all of us at AALBC: HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! |

Happy new year, Kola, Linda, all! I haven't had too much luck w/resolutions, but I usually have "wishes" for myself. "Reading more" is always on my list--I always begin wanting to get to specific books, but by the end of the year some titles have dropped off the list, others sit unread by my bedside, and many more are added. But other than that, I feel I experienced more than usual losses this year--in my family circle, friendship circle, and "cultural circle." I am vowing to NEVER miss an opportunity in '06 to get in touch with someone who passes my mind or to reach out to someone who reaches out to me. Have a wonderful and safe time this evening, everybody! |

Hope 2006 is a fulfilling year for everyone. Last night, immersed in a sea of champagne bubbles, I made a new years's resolution to be a gentler, kinder person. But I came to my senses today, and - changed my mind. heh-heh |

Hi everyone. Having a wonderful hangover. TOMORROW!....I send my manuscript for "Sexy Part of the Bible" off to my agent at last!!!!! The deadline was October 1st, so I'm 2 months late. PLUS...the last 60 pages aren't done, but I'm sending it off anyway. It's such a powerful book---I feel very confident about it---it's just a pain in the ass to write the shit. My resolution is to lose 20 pounds...which is why I'm not going on tour to support "Diary" until MAY (the book comes out in about 3 weeks). I just don't feel attractive (after the miscarriage---I still haven't dropped the fat I gained) and that's important to me; especially with DIARY being my life story and because of the fact that a good majority of my fans are HALF my age. I don't know what it is that college kids and young girls have for me. It's just astounding. So, I'm starting today to whip myself into shape. I really could be gorgeous if I wasn't so lazy and comfortable. And I want to be. (Note: if I had some money already I'd get some liposuction and plastic surgery-just being honest)---but, I have to work it the hard old fashioned way. WISH ME LUCK HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

The White woman loves those Black Americans who look the most like her people. The Indian woman loves those Black Americans who look the most Indian. I am an African woman, and I love those Black Americans who remind me the most of AFRICA. Sometimes, not often, but sometimes--they are yellow, like my IDOL Malcolm X. Or High yellow like my IDOL Toni Morrison. Those ones I love. But the Dark Black American is truly "black" to me and is my child. My heart lights up at the sight of their beautiful dark flesh and nappy hair. I see the glory Africa in them---without the white man.

Kola, I am starting to think you have some type of fear about mixed people. This is not North Africa sista, Black Americans will be just fine. Mixed blacks have been on this soil the day African women stepped off those slave ships. From the bottom of my heart, I really thank you for your concern about Black Americans. |
