Thanks Afro.

Although, most Black Americans think I'm BA when I walk up to a hot dog stand or browse the aisles at the music store.

Miss EthiopiaKola

I guess...kinda.

If I would lose weight, around 20 pounds, I would not be able to pass for AA.

My spoon shaped head would show.

I CAN tell you that much.

Iman has that spoon shaped head too, but

hers shows, because she's bony.

That's what I was about to say!

You really favor Iman! Especially in the nose-eye area! Your general bone structure really!

Hi Kola :-)

speaking of East-Africans...I want you to see a music videoclip at http://www.amadou-mariam.com/ (scroll down and click on 'regarder la clip' next to the SENEGAL FAST FOOD-clip) that's about Senegal, but I always find that the main character (a guy)looks more East-African instead of Senegalese. You would suppose that he is a Senegalese since the video was probably filmed in Senegal, but I don't know...what do you think?

Hmmm....i don't know about that...what about kenyans...east africa is a bit too diverse for such a state. Also, African Americans are so mixed...as in different Central and West Africans, as well as white folk and various native americans that we are a polygot...or should we say mutts?

I'm also a mutt (Sunni Egypto Turkish Waaq Oromo Felasha)---I don't look Sudanese to the North Arabs or the South Charcoals.....and can look Black American as long as people don't look too closely, so I'll agree with Yukio.

Hi Asherah, what a wonderful suprise!

Yes, he could be Senegalese. You never know what the circumstances were. And remember that the wealthier, upper class and "media" faces...are always chosen from the LEAST of the people's pureness. Rihann Benson, the biracial singer from Ghana---looks NOTHING like a Ghanian woman. Which is why they picked her to be seen.

Just like in America--they put the lightest, most mixed they can find in front of the camera, and in the case of females--you will RARELY see a true image of what the majority of the African women and AA women look like portrayed in media.

There are more blonds and light skinned women on t.v.

than in real life.

hi Kola,

KOLA: "Yes, he could be Senegalese. You never know what the circumstances were. And remember that the wealthier, upper class and "media" faces...are always chosen from the LEAST of the people's pureness."

yes, but have you watched the videoclip (you don't need to download anything to watch the video!;-)

It's not a typical videoclip with typical "media-faces". The boy actually looks quite the opposite than most black men seen in the media or on the streets. Always when I watch this video, he makes me think that he's from the East of Africa..

Asherah,

I'm really familiar with Mariam and Amadou.

I just watched the clip, but couldn't hear it.

It made me very homesick and it was wonderful to see so many authentic black people.

Who was the white guy? Is that who you're talking about?

The young couple in love looked very Senegalese to me.

It seemed very sad.

Wow, Asherah. :-)

Thank you SO MUCH. I really enjoyed these videos!!!

Especially the one where the beautiful bride is running through the city to find her king. I cried on that one.

I loved these images. They're West African, but they made me miss Sudan.

I really love Africa.

There's nothing like it.

NOTHING!

I knew you would like it :-)

no, I wasn't referring to the white guy(I think he is the singer of another group called 'Manu Chao'), but to the one of the couple. Well, you said he looked very Senegalese to you, but I find that he looks unlike the average black man and don't know why exactly he reminds me more of an East-African..

Anyways, I really like Mariam & Amadou's music too!!

There is a large population of Africans from Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea where I live. I must openly admit this, the women, as a group, are the most gorgeous that I have ever seen. NO EXCEPTIONS! I’m not attempting to be divisive or negative, but black American women (or any other women for that matter) are not physically on par with their North African black sisters. I’m sorry to say this and I take no great pride in saying it, but it is true. I see these women every day and they are stunning. That is not to say there are no attractive black American women around. Not true. But when you look at the ratio of “got it” to those “who don’t”, the percentage is clearly in the favor the Ethiopian, Somalian and Eritrerian women. And no, this not some groundless biased or racist attack against black American women. WHEN YOU SEE THESE WOMEN IN PERSON AS A GROUP, IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THERE IS A DRAMACTIC DIFFERENCE! And yes, I know the American sista’s on this board are going to launch an all out verbal attack on me for saying this, but it does not change what is clearly and irrefutably obvious to anyone who has eyes.
