American education is on the verge of creating a social environment where all students with different backgrounds can interact with one another and learn about each other and respect their differences..
In my opinion, we're all unique creatures, but the things we all say sometimes create world wars, etc...
We human beings, are a pain in the butt, but can also learn from our mistakes..
I'm doing my best not to comment any more on Vixen's thread because it's made me say things I regret.. I don't support hate groups....
I'm a loving person.. and here's a little article review for everyone to read! Give your opinion if interested. God bless !

The U.S is known as the land of the “free and opportunity” and often this message is sent across the globe, and in result it attracts many people to move here. One’s understanding of this message may only be that America is a rich country, and this is a bad message because a good country is not built on its ability to make money, but its ability to hold different races and ethnicities together, which is the message that should be sent. When foreigners arrive into this country, the message “free and opportunity” quickly becomes an opposite especially for the young people who have to continue their education. Once they’re in this country, they feel alone and isolated which is terrifying.
In a social studies class, the teacher can give an assignment where students can be put into groups to do a term presentation on how the inclusion of different races and ethnicities has built America. The teacher can mix up the students according to their backgrounds for this group project so that each and every student in that group can learn more about the other student. This idea will create social interaction among the students and give new immigrants a chance to interact with Americans. In addition, this project will create a positive classroom environment because the students will built more understanding of each other and their backgrounds.
On the due date of this assignment, the teacher will give the class a brief summary of today’s lesson with an explanation on how he or she feels it has made this country number one. The students will then present what they found in their term presentation.
As a result, the students would have learned allot about themselves and respect their differences in the classroom. And although this may just be a lesson from a classroom, it can go across the world and make a difference. People living in other countries presently need to be sent the message that they will not be alone once they arrive in the United States. The problem has been that America has not been building its foundation; in other words, this country was not found to attract people for the money, it was found to bring people from different background a chance to become one.
And becoming one does not mean becoming one race, we all acquire and ackowledge our differences. My request is that my students learn about each other and respect their differences...

We love as many different opinions on this board AS POSSIBLE.
And mines is this:
As we struggle to save our black race and black cultures---we should never lose sight of the fact that we are HUMAN and that all Humans have the capacity to work together for the common good.
Still, I am about strengthening and creating viable infrastructure for our blackness and standards that will guard and procreate it.
We have always supported our Colonizers and been nation builders for other groups. Enough is enough.

First we have to TEACH the children that there are different cultures, religions, etc.
Don't even get me started on my rant about graduating from high school, and the ONLY countries that are taught about in class are European. Some Latin countries are MENTIONED, but only as it pertained to Spanish history. Africa was MENTIONED, but only as it pertained to Slaves coming from there, and even then, no particular country was named, just the continent. I don't think I ever heard the words "Asia" or "Middle East" the entire time I was in school.
Everything I learned about different cultures, I learned either on my own, or by meeting people from those places.
And then there's the American schools and how they FORCE Christianity on the children, making them exchange Christmas gifts, etc. It would be nice if at least they could mention when it's time for Navatri, HAnukah, Tet, Ramadan, Diwali. Not necessarily promote those holidays, just say, "look, kids, not everyone celebrates Christmas."
And with more nationalities in our schools, it's more important now.
You have no idea how embarrassed I am to introduce friends to each other who are different cultures/nationalities, and the AMERICAN high school graduate will ask something like "Is INDIA in the Middle East?" or ask an African person how many wives they plan on getting. I get offended for my friends, and on top of that embarrassed that we seem so stupid.
So, to answer your question, to learn to live with different people, first we have to learn who the different people are, instead of just lumping them into the "them vs. us" categories that we usually do, and learn to appreciate that they have things going on in different places that doesn't have to always involve the US and Europe.
It's kind of hard to get along with Ugandans, or Zimbabweans, for example, when for most of your life, they didn't exist to you.
But, that's part of the brainwashing that we're going through. APART from skin color, do you know why British, Italians, Greeks, etc., don't receive such discrimination? We KNOW them, we know their habits, their language, etc. We've incorporated their foods, languages, etc., into our daily lives. Even BLACK people accept these people.
On the other hand, a Ugandan, Nepalese, Bangladeshi, or Cameroonian could come here and are discriminated against EVEN BY COLORED PEOPLE because we don't know them, we know nothing about their culture, their language, their foods. Heck, we don't even know where the hell their countries are located. In every way possible, they ALIEN to us.

The FIRST thing most people in the West must understand is that Africans and Black people in general are not a monolithic group.
You'd be suprised to know how many people believe Africa is a COUNTRY with one language and culture somewhere in the East where all Black people come from.
They look at the world like this.
English
French
German
Russian
Cuban
Mexican
Brazilian
Japanese
Korean
Chinese

And some fools don't even know that the majority of Black people live OUTSIDE of the United States...lol.
They think we came from Harlem.
To not note the differences between a Korean and a Japanese would be an insult.
To confuse an Italian with an Englishman would be a sign of derangement.
Why?
Because the world has been so aquainted with the differences between various white and Asian cultures.
When it comes to us....we're just "Black".
They can't concieve that we are a race well over a billion people with different cultures and languages.

Very good points... they make plenty of sense .
Thanks for responding to this thread.. It was actually a question asked by a student in my diversity class so decided to answer it....
Truly, a lot of people are closed-minded and refuse to look and appreciate the different human values and way of life..
Like white people are nearly learning to respect black people now -- and they will. Education must not only be Eurocentric centered, but world centered in America because this country is so full of immigrants, it is no joke.
No wonder the minority students are placed as "low" it is because they automatically assume they're stupid off of their own understanding.
They must understand the language of "ebonics" and that a black mother loves her children just as much if not more than a white mother loving her child. The point is, we're different and we all act different. But if the education system icorporate these differences, then we might finally have a fair system.
But guys, thanks for commenting and giving your opinions.. and again, I agree with you all 100%!
