TERRENCE HOWARD, the actor from "Hustle & Flow" and "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", has learned to deal with heartbreak amazingly well. His wife of 14 years recently up and left him. . . after confessing that she'd secretly been in love with a high school sweetheart. Terrence was cool with it. He just let her go. Of course, the pain was probably easier to take four months after the breakup. . . when he began nailing DAYANARA TORRES. It's not exactly clear how long Terrence has been coupling with the former Mrs. MARC ANTHONY, but he just went public about it because, quote, "She went through so much over Marc Anthony, I didn't want her to have to hold in a secret."
I know ya'll gonna have a field day with this...
I wanted to defend him marrying that white woman, but now I really do see that this guy needs to find his roots... I guess he's getting a little closer to home by dating a hispanic woman, but damn nigga... haven't you had enough of being a part the illusion of inclusion...

Yeah, Terrence Howard is half white. I think his mother is white, so I guess marrying white women runs in his family... I'm just sayin' that it would be nice to see my brotha with a sista... But just because you're half white doesn't always mean acceptance from white people..... which is why i added that he is still under the illusion of inclusion.... Like a lot of "us" are....
Right now he is one of the few respected "A" list black actors that we have. When he steps out, I don't care what anyone says, he's representin' "us," so it would be nice to see him representin' with one of "us" on his arm... If you understand where I'm comin' from.
But who he's with doesn't really bother me too much, because knowing black woman, they probably wouldn't want him anyway.I've noticed that most black woman are attracted to a certain kind of man. I know that if Terrence Howard went to "my" school, he wouldn't end up with a black girl because they probably wouldn't give him the time of day. Beleive it or not a lot of these guys that you see walking around with white girls, are with them because they have been rejected by their own race, and not the other way around.... If you get what I'm sayin'.
O... and who the hell is this mulatto guy... is he asking me a legitamate question, or is he just tryin to be funny. I don't even think he realizes that he's using a name that was given to interracial people to degrade them... So, you my friend can take your mule lookin ass somewhere else with that... and don't worry brotha, I deffinately won't be callin' you you to COME ON BACK... Well, from what I understand Mulatto was derived from the latin word mulas which means mule... and what is a mule???? It's the offspring of a horse and a donkey... So if you want to be considered Mulatto, then be my guest. It's not my problem, it's yours.
And yes, my comment was aimed at you. Sorry if you felt that I was being racist against you, MULATTO, and if you didn't make your comment to stir up trouble, then for that I am sorry again... But do realize that the word "Mulatto" was once, and sometimes is still used in a racist context. |

Get a grip. We start talking about Terrence Howard and end up demeaning each other. All I care about is that Terrence is a great actor, he's representing black folks when he's on that screen, and he's giving off the right vibes by doing black movies that use to be underrated. Mulatto of not, stay focus young fools. Don't demean each other over something that isn't bothering Terrence Howard -- namely your degradation of each other. Focus on the man's talents and be glad we can employ our own to the extent he's performing. |

Although I thought they seemed to be a cute couple, Terrence was proably cheating all along--those Hollywood men are notorious for behaving badly. tsk-tsk. Nevertheless, she'll get a decent amount of money to take care of her children as well as herself and enjoy the company of her new, "old" flame. Life goes on.

Terrence Howard hasn't done a damned thing that represents me or any black people I know.
Edenson is right. I'm one black woman who can't stand him and don't find him attractive. He's too snot looking--and I hate light eyes on blacks. With darker eyes he might be ok. He's just not cute. He looks like a little boy.
Denzel Washington has been the best at representing BLACK people and their humanity. IMO.

He was alright in "Hustle and Flow" but it he was not "truly black" in it. I think they could have come up with a real black man and a real black woman for his part... But he's alright. He isn't the best... he's alright.
I think we've been havin enough light skinned black women who are mixed representing actresses... I cannot afford to have men do the same...
And I agree with Kola... Denzel, Samuel L. Jackson and Morgan Freeman are the most true black actors in America. |

LOL Kola....When u said Terrence looks like a little boy, that was so funny. If Terrence is half white, i think it's ok if he wants to be with a white woman. It's really a waste of time for black folk to be getting all upset about what mixed people are doing with their lives. And let's face the fact that white women are practically throwing themselves at black men in Hollywood, whether they be mixed or authentic.
The black man is loved by women worldwide and they are simply taking advantage of that, just like white men have done in the past and continue to do. The brothas are simply having fun and enjoying themselves. |

But hey, I agree with you though. Howard can marry anyone he please, wether it be a black woman or a white woman. He has those two options because he is both black and white.
But no, a black man who is not Howard is not having fun in this world by being able to marry whoever he please (if he is fully black). A black man is disgracing his race by marrying other races and leaving his own woman to suffer. |

Did y'all catch him on Oprah about six or so weeks ago. He came across a bit neurotic, (which is not attractive at all on a man, imo); and he also revealed himself to be a coward when Oprah grilled his ass and MADE him change his opinion in midair, a 180, on the usage of "the N word. He looked like a straight-up bitch, not manly at all. Anyway, that, and the fact that he's not physically attractive, is the reason I believe that white, non-black, light-skinned, and "mullato" women are doing bona fide black women a favor by taking many of the nutty, confused, color-struck, and, oftentimes, unattractive black men off the streets. (Have y'all noticed that most color-stuck black men are usually really ugly? If not, check-out some of the rap videos, old & new; that's how they look in real life).

Not everyone who says they're bi-racial actually are. My sister tells white people she's bi-racial, because her white boyfriends have insisted on it (to make her "ok" for their family and friends). But she isn't. Of course my family is pissed off about it. |

Terrence Howard's mother is white. He even talked about it on Oprah, about how his father was beat up for being with a white woman. But I will say he did look like a coward on stage when he changed his opinion on the word nigger, as well as Ludacris for not being able to speak his mind clearly on the word. However, Don Cheadle stuck up for the use of the word, and I think he is the first person in history to ever disagree with Oprah, and actually stand by his statement. Even Oprah looked a little intimidated. I guess light skin people just ain't got no backbone. |

Well, I didn't see Terrence on Oprah, however, I do enjoy watching him in films. I think that he's a great actor. As a black woman, I love to see our black men with our black women, but that’s his prerogative. Just as I hope that both my sons bring home a black queen, I have no control over who they fall in love with; and if they choose a woman of another race, I will love them no less.
...and unless he’s got contacts in his eyes, he has no control over the color.
Give the man a break ya’ll! He’s still a black man nonetheless. I think that we look too hard to find fault, instead of focusing on what is positive in one another.

Edenson, I had the same reaction as you did after watching Terrance and the others on the Oprah show, and I, too, got a big kick out of Don Cheadle putting Oprah in check about the word "nigga." Every once in a while the omnipotent Ms. Winfrey needs to be reminded that she is not omniscient! |

No one said that the man wasn't black. As for thw word nigger, I wasn't trying to put Terrence Howard down because he doesn't want to use the word. It was the fact that he said he saw nothing wrong with the word because nowadys its used as a greeting for your fellow brother. As soon as Oprah started grilling Terrence and Ludacris, and telling them she doesn't like the word, Terrence changed his mind and agreed with Oprah. Terrence doesn't have a backbone because he changed his mind in one wink, and sided with Oprah. She forced her opinion on him, and he couldn't hang. Don Cheadle didn't back down, and he even tried to help Ludacris out when he was a loss for words. Bottom line, Terrence and Ludacris fell under the pressue of the great big O. |

I am new to this post and I was very interested in what you all had to say about Terrence Howard. Just to set the record straight though, Howards' parents are BOTH mixed( white and black). His father was actually more "caucasion looking" than his mother. His maternal grandmother was an african american actress by the name of Minnie Gentry.
From the outside looking in, it stings to see a black man with another woman of another race or a black woman vice versa but, love is love. We are given the right by GOD to choose who we want to be with. Because he was married to a white woman for 14 years and is now with a hispanic woman doesn't take away from the fact that he is still a BLACK MAN. No one knows his reasons for marrying a white woman 14 years ago. And I am pretty sure it wasn't for social standing because he wasn't "socially standing" anywhere 14 years ago. I am also understanding that if you are a good looking and talented brotha in Hollywood (the Denzels, Wills and Samuels) with black wives then you garner more respect from other black women. Well, would it pain you to know that Don Cheadle's partner and mother of his children is half-white? Homegirl is as light as a cream leather. I guess that is ok since she is still black right? Let's get over this people and just love one another even if it is because of the simple fact that we got black people on out side opening up doors for us to pursue our dreams of entertainment if we wanted to. Respect the man's talent if nothing else.

K i just found this chat room i have a question does the term light skinned refer to mulatto. And by the way edenson's right mulatto does mean that mule thing it's in webster's. I saw that oprah thing but my satellite went out in the last like 10 minutes so i didn't know terrence renounced his stance. I have a white mother and i think black father but since i was adopted i'm not sure what black he is. But my adoptive mother said my bio mom said he was"light skinned black" so i'm kinda curious. And i was raised in an all white family and i don't see what' wrong with calling a black person nigger it's just name for black people |

Wow... all of this opened my eyes to alot. My reason for interest in terrance howard was to see if he had a white or black wife. I saw a different character than I expected when I watched him on Oprah. But what blew my mind were the statements that emory wrote. Emory... where are you from(what state do you live in)? Does your family call black people niggers? Cuz let me school you hun, a nigger is a person who is ignorant, which means any race can possess that quality. And you are very ignorant about your race and culture. I dont say this to be rude but its so true. I hope you don't take that the wrong way. Actually i hate britney Spears and courtney love marilyn manson's nuts i like country music, rock,and there actually is a rapper i like Eminem so. I suppose you never even paused and thought about my statement regarding the NAACP you just went right for the throat. What i meant by that was that there is no such thing as a white organization that mirrors the NAACP they do not have an organization that tries to separate themselves from other races yes they have the Klan but it's not condoned. There is no such channel called WET but there is a BET if there was a channel with the title White Entertainment Television people would call it racist. The Naacp singles out black people . People in general don't like having things forced upon them. So instead of just going with the flow and saying yes we are all equal now on the same playing field the organization (NAACP) is a constant reminder to all that black people are set apart so in peoples minds black people are set apart. Whether negatively or positively is up for grabs but it does promote a rift regardless. Maybe that offends but that's what i think.
And to shanna black people call themselves niggers all the time on rap songs anyway. And i understand what your saying about the ignorant thing. I was going to originally ask if that word(nigger) offended you but obviously it does not because you made a distinction referring to ignorance so obviously one would usually not think of one's self as ignorant so i suppose it does not offend you. And i have a black friend but i really don't care much about african history no offense i'm sure their culture is rich or something but not as civilized as others and some people find that interesting but i do not. American history interests me slaves included. But apparently most mulattos were free anyway so i don't see the point really. You should not apologize for simply stating an opinion. Also if i do not get a chance to look it up what is the actual webster approved definition for the word (nigger) is it as you claim that the word refers to ignorance. And as for (misguided) that word is not relevant it only speaks volumes to those that choose the path you do. And as i have observed the word i used earlier seems to offend or at least cause a negative reaction so i will not use it on here anymore. And if it is convenient i would like to know the ages of the people who respond to me i am 17yrs. |

Puleeze, emory. Do I need a lecture from a 17-year-old white person about the skewed logic of black people. The arguments you advance are not new. But they've always been nipped in the bud by simply reminding clueless white folks that since your ancestors were not slaves or were a people later subjected to racial discrimination and social rejection, then you need to just chill out with your criticism about us opting to do our own thing and pursue our own self interests. Especially since once we blacks were introduced to integration, we soon discovered that it was no big deal inasmuch as it involved interacting with people we didn't care that much about being around in the first place. Also, black people do not use the word "nigger" among themselves. They affectionately call each other "nigga" and even a hard-core rapper like M&M knows better than to call a black friend "nigga" or "nigger". The word "nigger" has a long history of cruelty and degradation and pain behind it. And you can believe, that when a white person calls a black person a "nigger" it not their intent to express anything but ridicule or contempt or down right hate. I guess you feel you deserve credit for having a black friend and for having a passing interest a few aspects of black history, but rest assured you are not doing anybody any favors by condescending to acknowledge black folks exist. You are young and have a lot to learn and you should start by realizing that your opinion about what blacks do wrong or what they need to do just falls on skeptical ears considering how flawed white people are and how they have screwed up this country. You might also keep in mind that since you claim to have black blood in you, you can never escape this blood line. Whatever you call yourself or however you perceive yourself, your black blood is still a part of who you are. (Now go and listen to your corny music and nurture your distaste for the black rappers you feel the same about as blacks do about Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson.) |

emory, if you came back to read any of the posts responding to you ;u should know this. I said nigger means ignorant. however white people use it to hurt black people. Shanna, there are a lot of people on this board who do not share you opinion of me because I "call 'em, like I see 'em". I'm from around Chicago and probably old enough to be your mother, or even grandmother. As you may have detected, I'm a little world-weary because I been there, done that when it comes to a lot of what is suggested in regard to "what black folks need to do." As a result, I have kinda reached the conclusion that the more things change, the more they become the same. You may have also noted that often, just for the heck of it, I challenge over-confident people and, in doing so, I simply take the opposite side of whatever issue they are pontificating about. LOL |
