Here's an excerpt from the latest post at ViqiFrenchFever.blogspot.com: Kanye West: Stand Up for Hurricane Victims One of my closest friends is unaccounted for in New Orleans, is not yet even being searched for in the deadly aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Luckily, we finally learned Wednesday that she is alive -- for now. You see, my very decent, hard-working, Jaguar-driving friend Desiree is eerily trapped inside her powerless house in Orleans Parrish and close to starving to death. The car had been troublesome, had broken down a month ago on the very highway-bridge that was destroyed by the hurricane. So she was "stuck" in New Orleans to weather the storm, alone. At some point, she ventured out of her flooded home and into the waist-high "slop" -- the sewage and remains of the deceased and the rats and wildlife that probably are feeding on them -- with intentions of wading to the Super Dome. But somewhere along the way, a sheriff stuck a gun in her model-lovely, mocha face and threatened to shoot it off. And then at the Super Dome, when she realized there was no way in hell she'd be able to board a bus to Houston, she decided it was too risky to stay overnight in the pitch blackness with the crowd, which was likely more irritated and anxious than she. So she waded her lanky, upscale self back home. And there she sits and waits... I imagine what she waits for... Hard to believe as it may be, Tonya, the last thing we talked about were her nails. You might imagine that she is very confused about where she will live and about figuring out a new job situation, in order to survive. Jokes aside, I pray that you nor anyone you care about experiences such extreme, shocking misfortune in your lifetime. But if such hell ever swoops into your life, the question you've asked here and your deep concern will be fondly remembered. :-) |

Vigi: Your opening post did not read as if you were concerned for someone who is searching for survival and a new job. It was watered-down by pomposity, and Frankly, the implications were that this individual is too gooood and wealthy to be a part of such dire conditions. That kind of thinking may be true for some, and as your initial post suggests, it maybe the case for you -- but for those victims who were left behind for being poor -- one's boken down "Jaguar", "lovely mocha face", and "lanky upscale" body should not be the deciding factors that garners sympathy from us and the rest of the world. (not even if she's from the "white/good" part of town) Therefore, if you expected a SERIOUS response to the ARROGANCE that permeated much of your post, you should've sent it to "Vougue" or "Vanity Fair." For now, however, You're dealing with real people, so either expect real responses... OR... GET REAL.... Tonya |

"Tonya" is it this time? Once again, there's a response based on half the information: You didn't read the entire post at ViqiFrenchFever.blogspot.com, only the teaser here. And that's your choice, but... I'll make no apology for your only reading 1/3 of the post here and therefore missing the point entirely. But for context, note the actual post at the site acknowledged Kanye West for taking a stand for people of color, who were all left to fend for themselves in those deadly waters. None of these folks' lives were valued, regardless of whether they were welfare recipients or people who worked hard everyday (as my friend and numerous others down there did, despite mainstream media's assumptions). Part of my point was that all Black people (in New Orleans or anywhere else) are NOT on welfare. And even if we were all are in dire financial need, that's no excuse for dismissing us after the storm. So my other point was, they all were left in those perilous waters because of their overwhelmingly "mocha" complexions. So yes, my friend does have a "lovely, mocha face," as I would describe the majority of the evacuees we're seeing on TV. Africanness, to me, is beautiful, an attribute to be proud of. And my friend also "had" a luxury car, until the levee broke. It was a gift, as is her skin color. I do not need to see a Black person broke down and totally out to understand their life still isn't a bowl of cherries. But it seems you do. Can't a Black person make a teeny stride or two without a crab in the barrel hating? Even once Black folks in America acquire two nickels to rub together, we're still subjected to... drowning from apathy. Yet it's our own people often submerging us most forcefully, such as with a mentality that leads one to joke about "broken nails." And that is, sadly, all that you've made apparent and "real" to me, "Tonya." But I've digressed. Point is, what is most telling is that you think it cute to ask if someone who near-died in New Orleans broke a nail. Regardless of your perceptions about my post, I would think that an immature response, even for a "cyniquical" Happy-mealer.

You're a writer, right? Well consider this constructive criticism: Vigi: "You didn't read the entire post... only the teaser here." Who exactly were you trying to "tease"??? Did you consider your audience? Vigi: "But for context, note the actual post at the site acknowledged Kanye West for taking a stand for people of color, who were all left to fend for themselves in those deadly waters." You barely and I mean BARELY mentioned Kanya in your "teaser" , which not only ignores much of the bait, it means that your THESIS was not given the slightest bit of consideration. One wonders why Kaya's photo was posted to begin with. Instead of being "teased", the reader is first confused, then she is torn by the decision to further engage the piece and its irritating incoherence. Finally, if she decides to read it out of respect, the reader is forced to focus on whatever stands out -- in your case -- condescension and conceit. Vigi: "You didn't read the entire post at ViqiFrenchFever.blogspot.com..." If your "teaser" is indicative of what I might find on your site, why on earth would I even bother. If I wanted to waste my time on an author with poor writing skills, I'd read my own elementary bullshit. Vigi: "Once again, there's a response based on half the information" Honestly, Vigi, my ONLY reason for reading THAT MUCH was out of respect for the people of New Orleans. Vigi: "I'll make no apology for your only reading 1/3 of the post here and therefore missing the point entirely." You really, really should. I'm no writer, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that the teaser should include the point, or at least some of it.... even if its a teeny, tiny bit. Vigi: "Can't a Black person make a teeny stride or two without a crab in the barrel hating?" Oh, lawd, no you didn't! Ok.... I promised myself that I'd remain serious... OK... Don't flatter yourself, Vigi, you obviously still have a lot to learn. Tonya

ALSO, VIGI: TO MAKE THINGS CRYSTAL CLEAR, YOU SCREWEWD YOUR VICTIM -- NOT ME. IF YOU WANTED HER TO BE VIEWED SYMPATHETICALLY, YOU SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN HER THAT WAY. TONYA
