Maybe once, maybe more... You started out feeling the time was right, but for whatever reason, you're smoking again. Now, you're asking whether it's worth it to try quitting again. You bet it is! Smoking is a dangerous and self-destructive habit. Various poisons contained within tobacco smoke cause or contribute to cancer of the mouth and lungs, heart problems, emphysema, gum disease and a variety of other physical diseases. Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in the United States . That’s important! Want evidence of the dangers of smoking? Consider these statistics: A smoker’s risk of heart attack is more than twice that of nonsmokers. Cigarette smoking is the biggest risk factor for sudden cardiac death -- smokers are looking at two to four times the risk of nonsmokers. Studies have shown that cigarette smoking is also an important risk factor for stroke. The evidence also indicates that chronic exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke, passive smoking) may increase the risk of heart disease. Most smokers sincerely want to quit. They know cigarettes threaten their health, set a bad example for their children, annoy their acquaintances and cost an inordinate amount of money. Nobody can force a smoker to quit. It's something each person has to decide for himself., Sometimes the cigarette is used as a tranquilizer.. Once a smoker understands his own smoking behavior, he will be able to cope more successfully and select the best quitting approaches for himself and the type of life-style he leads. Quitting is hard, but don't give up! Quit smoking Now! For better Life,,!!! http://partnerclicks.net/click.php?APID=2&affID=0001008

Why do I think this is so funny: the lady who lives a couple of blocks down the street from me got busted by the cops because her neighbors complained about all of the traffic coming and going out of her house. What was her offense? Seems like she was selling loose cigarettes from her home; 3 for a dollar during the day, and 2 for a dollar during the night. Anyway, she was doing a booming business considering how expensive a pack of cigarettes is nowadays. Talk about being enterprising and taking advantage of the supply and demand principle! When I mentioned this to others, I was told that there are people all over town selling loose cigarettes. My point? Cigarettes have become forbidden fruit, and the more unavailable they become, the more people will find a way to feed their habit. The ironic thing is that since cigarettes are so expensive, people now tend to limit the number they smoke to less than a pack a day, and since a 2-pack-a-day habit is what all the dire statistic are predicated on, the health hazard of smoking has been considerably reduced. |

All: Yep. I was on the bus the other day. Two white kids got on, college students. "You got it?" one said to another. The other pulled out a pack of tobacco cigarettes and they gave each other the high sign. They are making smoking cool again by driving it underground. |

Smoking's been underground since I was in middle school. The 8th graders used to smoke right across the street from school. This will probably not change for some time. |

Under-aged smoking has been underground since tobacco came to America centuries ago. But recently, with cigarettes getting the bad-mouth and falling out of favor, smoking has taken on a new aura; it has become an act of defiance on the part of everybody who continues to do it. |

uh, Tobacco is indigienous to America. Remember? The N. americans smoked it? I do agree that tobacco embedded itself so deeply into the national and global culture that it may take centuries before we have a smoke-free population. |

You're correct. Native Americans were the first to cultivate tobacco, introducing it to the pioneer settlers, whose young sons would sneak away and smoke behind the barn. Which is to reiterated my point that under-aged smoking has been underground for a long time but that, currently, smokers of all ages are being forced out of the mainstream. |
