The artist seeks to be ALONE because in the quiet of his spirit he can better see his way clear to CREATE.
LONELINESS is too bleek and too desolate an emotion, leaving an artist cut off from the possibilities his creativity might explore.
In his solitude an artist is most at peace, finding comfort in the passions of who he is and what he brings to the table. He is content and when content, seldom bored, because boredom can breed contempt for his surroundings and his lot in life, and render him impotent to his creative self. And without the gratification from and nourishment of his creative spirit, an artist would have no use of any canvas, because he would cease to be an artist. |

Babygirl, it was Kola Boof who got Chris Hayden's first book published and they are close friends. You've been Kola's biggest attacker, so I'm sure Hayden's loyalty is to Kola and probably tries to say as little to you as possible.

Nobody recognized the "You do your thang" quote from Clarence Carter's "Mr. Penguin" or the "Multitudes" quote from "Song of Myself" by Whitman.

zzzzzzz. Students? Are you a professor? Or an authority? And who says a writer has to suffer? That's a romanticized myth. Hammett's success could've been inspired by the stimulating companionship of Lillian Hellman. |

I would imagine that in some instances, the primary determinant of which sensation is considered which comes from your own value system, and your own interpretations of what is going on around you. There is but a fine line that comes between pleasure and pain, and sometimes your mind will tell you that something is hurting you, even as other parts of your being are thoroughly enjoying what is going on, wherein what you are experiencing is pleasure in its ultimate form and really not pain at all.
With respect to my own artistic endeavors though, I firmly believe, pain will stifle your greatness, while pleasure will lift you up and help you to soar. But then, that's MY thang!
But I look forward to reading Dashiell Hammett and perhaps, changing my mind. |

Please don't take offence Babygirl, but I thought you were so much younger and possibly law enforcement or stripper.
Glad to hear that you do writing. That's admirable, but why would people not consider you a writer if you published so many books? Are they not stuck-uppy liter type stuff?

No offense taken at all, in fact I find your assumptions - that I am either an old bootie-shakin' mama or an ancient pistol-packing gun slinger with a badge, quite amusing. Reinforces the benefits of anonimity...but that stripper-thing might be interesting...I wonder what Big Daddy would think about installing a pole and some mirrors in the bedroom...
And with respect to my writing, there are those who love it and those who hate it, which is the case for all of us who dare to do what we love and then put ourselves out there for public review.
And although I appreciate your questions and interest in my writing, under the guise of "Babygirl", I come to this space NOT to promote myself or to discuss my books but to simply enjoy the challenge of an interesting exchange with those who may share interests similar to my own. |

Dearest Chris,
I am an artist and fascinated by what you said about the artist being alone. I read once that solitude is the key to one's soul and in solitude it is where we "the artist" find time to find ourselves. Much luck to you in this life. My family thinks that because I often want to be alone it is due to be being depressed. It's just the opposite though I love it, because I am able to take time out for "me".
