I stopped watching Presidential televised speeches sometime during the Nixon era. I found out I can always get the highlights the next day and, regardless of who is President, his speech will have about as much relation to the truth as Harry Potter. Did anybody watch? Whatcha think? |

I watched most of it. I didn't vote for Bush but I do beleive that our troops need to stay there until the Iraqi government can take over. After wathcing the beheading of Nick Berg I became more hawkish on militant Islam. That type of brutality needs to be dealt with. Can you imagine someone cutting your head off with knife? |

RadiationX, can you imagine anybody killing thousands of innocent civilians and classifying their deaths as collaterial damage? That's America's modus operandi as The Bushman and his cadre of war mongering idiots continue to wage a senseless war that is in no way diminishing the threat of terrorism. No, I didn't watch Bush read the bullshit that had been prepared for him to recite. And if they pass the bill to classify flag-burning as a crime, then my criminal tendencies are about to go up in smoke! Old Glory, indeed. How about Old Gory. |

Chris, Sorry. I can't watch this clown anymore. Because everytime I see him I involuntarily shake my head until I get migraines. Plus, anyone pass age 5 can predict virtually EVERYTHING he's going to say (including his perfunctory mispronunciations). Him and the rest of those jokers are some malevolent, lying, duplicitous, specious sons-a-b*+$%es. Radiationx, I second Chris' emotion: When are YOU going to strap-on and suit-up to fight/die for Operation [Fake] Iraqi Freedom? |

Like most "AFRICANS" from that region----I find it almost impossible to have sympathy for IRAQ. Especially since the nation's 8 million blacks are descended from Sudanese slaves. For me, it's very personal.

Oh, who said anything about having sympathy for Iraq! My point is that America is trying to portray itself as rescuing the people they are destroying. Plus, this country is spending billions of dollars on a war instead of helping its own needy citizens. (Like you had to tell me where your selective sympathies lie, Kola.) |

Honestly, my only concern about Iraq is that we get the hell out of there...PRONTO! Cool. Saddam is gone. Now it's open up for IRAQIS - and NOT Americans - to decide how they're going to live If our immediate withdrawal is good for Iraqis, GREAT. If it's not, too bad. I don't think Americans (especially BLACK ones) should be fighting/dying over there for that country or those people. |

Let me clarify my positions on Bush and the war in Iraq. Did Bush lie to get us into this war? Of course he did. Did Saddam and Ousama have terrorist connections to each other, hell no, in fact at one time Ousama wanted to raise an army to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam because he didn't feel that Saddam was a proper muslim because of his secular government. Did Saddam have the suspected weapons of mass destruction? No. Notwithstanding all the specious arguements that led this nation to war, we are there like it or not. And since we are there we have some sobering responsibilities to live up to. I hate the fact that innocent people are killed in war,but I dare say that the insurgents are doing more INTENTIONAL harm to civillians than U.S. forces. These insurgent animals are targeting Iraqi police stations, barber shops have been attacked because shaving facial hair is against Islam in their view, and kidnapping civilians and chopping off their heads for sport. Don't believe me? I'll let you download the videos from my harddrive or you can go on almost any peer to peer network and get them yourself. Do you think that it would be better for us to pull out now and let Iraq decend into civil war? Do you think that's a better option for the people of Iraq? I don't. America is not perfect but i don't see many of you complainers trying to leave. Would you like to go and have a stay with Robert Mugabe? What about Fidel? Or maybe you'd like to emigrate to chechnya? I'm no apologist for America when she does wrong, but fighting terrorist is the right thing to do. USA USA USA!!! |

Radiationx, 1) We really don't know who have done more harm to Iraqis. We want to BELIEVE the insurgents are. But really, how do we know. But I do know this, if some dudes pitch a tent in my back yard and started bossing/pushing me, my wife and kids arounds, I'm not going to give a dayam whether he calls himself a coalition soldier or an insurgent. I'm going to want you to get the hell off of my property. PERIOD! 2) And since when has it been proven prudent that the best way to remedy a mistake is to continue it? What's the rational basis for that? 3) In wars, bad things happen across the board. And in most modern wars, the MAJORITY of people are civilians. That was the case in WW 2, Korea, Vietnam, etc. You complain about insurgents killing police stations, barber shops, etc. But you bet your ass our GI have done (and probably are still doing) the same. 4) The decapitation issue, though horrific, is overplayed. What's one decapitation we see versus the 1,000's of people blown to bit's we'll NEVER see? 5) I think the people who are indigenous to the area should decide what kind of place Iraq will be, including whether even Iraq as the West has determined should even exist. If the Sunni's want to create a 'country' separate from Shiite, who are we to dictate otherwise. If the Kurds want their own country...LET'M. Who the fuck are WE to dictate how/why these people should be force fed into each other. It's NOT our land! We have no legal/moral right to dictate their futures to them. |

I disagree with you Abm. I think it would be worse on the people of Iraq if we left too soon. You are right, we have no right to impose a system of government on anyone. I believe in democracy and i think that it should be spread. let me ask you this, how many democratic countries have been at war with each other in the last 150 years? Answer=zero that fact alon speaks volumes about democratic ideals |

Radiationx, It maybe be worse on Iraq. But it may not be. Who's to say. And I think it very arrogant and presumptuous of us to assume we can and should make Iraq into something that AMERICA prefer that it be. And I dang sure don't want me or mine DYING for that. I'm okay with supply them SOME food, arms, logistics and training. But I draw the line at Americans getting their ass blown off over there. And we've been here before. Korea. Vietnam. Cambodia. How'd we do with them? None to well. I believe in democracy too. But show me ONE good, enduring democracy that was installed via ANOTHER country. Just one. People must win their democracy via their own blood/sweat/tears. Otherwise, they'll end up exchanging one form of tyranny for another...that may prove even WORSE than it's predecessor. |

In general i agree with some of what you are saying. But the facts on the ground, right now, are dire for the Iraqi people. We made a mistake as a nation in going to war in Iraq, but i still believe that withdrawl is not the solution. Look at what happened when the world community turned it's back on Rawanda. Time will have to tell us if democracy is the solution to Iraqs problems. |

Y'all are forgetting that IRAQ is sitting on top of the second largest OIL reserves in the WORLD. OIL is in DEMAND now-a-days especially because of CHINA's booming industries. Don't be fooled by phrases like Democracy, etc. America wants to control the oil fields and doesnt give a shoot about the Iraqi people. Keep your heads out of the SAND. |

Chris, Notice how there're always are PLENTY of foks who are gung-ho to back some foolhardy reason(s) for someone ELSE getting their heads blown off. Congressman Rangel (D-NY) and others have argued the only way for us to really divine whether we should and want be in Iraq is for the draft to be re-installed. THEN you might have some people break free of the spellbinding lies Bush & Co. have effectively wielded. Think about it: If the 'war' truly is as vital to the nation's interests, shouldn't every able bodied American - women INCLUDED - be called into the execution of it? |

But as long as the Democratic party is manned by gutless GOP-wannabees, we're going to get deeper/deeper into this mess. |

Ok, I maway late, but i had to comment on this. First off do you know the eact figure for the ppl killed in Iraq besides the troops? Most of the casualties I hear of are b/c of terrorist activites. And Bush or noone or nothign of recent mae up the term collateral damage. Collateral damage is something I learned of when I was a little girl and it is applied to ppl killed in war. It has been for alonmg time-why should it be a big deal now? Plz stop being a softy. "RadiationX, can you imagine anybody killing thousands of innocent civilians and classifying their deaths as collaterial damage?
