I thought I'd post this because i feel as though there really IS a such thing as a lightskin Black. I've been on several message forums that always label Tyra Banks as being mixed, when in fact she is NOT. Tyra's mother is dark brown (Oprah, Gabrielle Union color) with typical African features. As for her father, he is even darker than her mom with even stronger African features. She also has a brother, who is darkskin and takes after her father. Tyra gets her carmel skin, and colored eyes obviously from some ancestor who could have possibly been white. Because her grandmother is the same color as she, and has the hazel/green eyes that Tyra inherited. I bring this issue up b/c many feel as though Blacks should be divided from the light/mulatto--well what would one do with a person like Tyra? People like her happen all the time in the black community. Will she be called something different from her brother who is from the same bloodline? And by dividing the 'authentic Blacks' from the 'mulatto' or 'mixed' how will this benefit Black people as a whole? It's just dividing an already divided race. White ppl do this only to classify us, and well Black ppl keep reinforcing it because they're brainwashed. |

LOL...i've asked a similar question on these boards before because our family is a lot like tyra's this is one of the reasons i think it's crazy to divide blacks by skin color. pluis...i don't understand why anyone would WANT to divide blacks any more than we're already divided. strenght has always lied within numbers.blacks are the most oppressed group so, it would be smarter to raise lighter skinned and mixed blacks to identify with blacks so that we can ahve more support |

I agree, Misty. I have visited several forums that discuss the Black race and classification. And there has never, ever been a time where a unanimous group of ppl agreed on who is a 'pure' Black. There was one forum who said that Gabrielle Union was a mulatto. Can you believe it? What does that tell you? |

Actually, Tyra's mother is very Light. But her father is chocolate. She gets her light complexion from her mother. Her brother, and her aunt(mother's sister) are both very dark as well. |

I totally agree with the original poster. Also I find it rather interesting how some mulattos more hold in esteem their white characteristics and take offense to being called black. Stating this is one-dropism,I believe half of the mulattos who behave this way wish they were white. Its ridiculous there is no race as mulatto, perception is reality most mulattos look more black than anything so therefore in my opinion they are black. USA is such a race obssessed country its not funny. |
