Farafina is about to send me the "cover art" of my very first magazine cover!!!!

I warn you...I'm topless.

And because I've lost so much weight in the last 3 months, I also have some loose flesh, which I asked them not to fix.

I still need to TONE UP in the gym, but I am down to a size 6 again.

I'll post it as soon as it arrives.

What is Farafina?

It's the largest LITERARY magazine in Nigeria. They publish very serious critical essays about African literature....they feature African writers, such as the woman who wrote "Purple Hibiscus"....and they review books and they publish NEW short fiction and poetry.

Because they're online--many African artists around the world read the magazine.

.............

For some reason---I am really BIG in Nigeria!

Not only is my career taking off there, but they are making me BIG in England (I'm in an Irish magazine next month, too). Africa and Europe seems to love me.

UGH!!!

So....I'm in terrible suspense.

Nice pic Ms. Kola and congratulations on the cover. But why are you naked? When ppl see you naked do you feel that they consider you as an intellectual? I mean, I KNOW that you are intelligent but is that a forethought? For you?

Didn't you read the lead ins?

This cover is for a NIGERIAN magazine.

If you are a "Black" person, then you know why African women bare their breasts for GOD.

And that's the exact purpose.....to REMIND PEOPLE that naked African women were extremely intelligent and quite capable of writing the complicated multi-layered fiction books I write.

Perhaps if we learn that small thing about our ancestral mothers....then we won't hate being descended from them.

:-)

Thank you Ms. Kola. I know all about my ancestors. Everything I need to know. And I got the part about it being for a Nigerian magazine, but my question was to you about what you think about it, not necessarily about the customs and culture of Nigeria, or are you doing it because everybody else does it. And as many naked pix as you have posted of yourself all over this board, I realize that you don't have a problem with posing naked.

But - hypothetically - what if you didn't want to pose naked? What if you wanted to keep your clothes on? Every woman that poses for a Nigerian magazine has to get naked? They don't take pix of women in clothes? Because that would be as though the women don't have a mind of their own. Me personally, I would want to make that decision, and not have someone impose that on me. And yes, I'm quite Black, and my boobs look okay but I'm not posing naked, not for God or anyone else. Well, maybe if Hef offered me some exorbitant amount of cash. But that's just me.

Don't you think that some Nigerian men looking at your naked pic would conjure you as a sexual object? Or do you believe that when they see you naked posing in a sensual way, they all think of you as a godly being baring her breasts to honor God? Nigerian men don't think about sex? And what exactly do Nigerian men do to honor God?

That's the difference between African women and African-American women, because AA women have a say in whether they want to get naked in front of God and everybody. What would they do to a Nigerian woman that doesn't want to get naked? Stone her ass to death? And what if the Nigerian woman doesn't believe in God? They don't have athiests in Nigeria? See, that's why I'm happy that my Black ass isn't over in Africa!

But - hypothetically - what if you didn't want to pose naked? What if you wanted to keep your clothes on?

Then I would and I do. Most women in Africa are Christian or Islamic now, so they don't go topless in the city areas, and if they could get on magazines, they wouldn't be topless.

They go topless back in their tribal villages or in rivers for "Fellowship" or for Bride Rituals, Virginity meetings.

My statement in doing so....is to rebuke those who dishonor the beliefs of our ancestors when they were FREE.

It's only after they were conquered by Christians and Arabs that they began to see "nudity" as dirty.

And, of course, you are the descendent of former slaves---people who were not allowed to speak their own language, read books and forced to become Christians among other things. So obviously, you are speaking from the only back porch that you know. NOT the complete 26,000 year history.

And yes, I'm quite Black, and my boobs look okay but I'm not posing naked, not for God or anyone else.

I never asked you to. And I could give a shit what you do with YOUR body.

Don't you think that some Nigerian men looking at your naked pic would conjure you as a sexual object?

I'm sure that plenty of them do. You think I give a shit? If it's Djimon Hounsou looking--then I would hope so. LOL.

Or do you believe that when they see you naked posing in a sensual way, they all think of you as a godly being baring her breasts to honor God?

Of course, MANY Africans, both male and female, are used to seeing their Mothers, Grandmothers and Aunts topless at some point during the day----so they do not "sexualize" the bare breast.

If you kept your ankles and elbows covered, then people would "sexualize" those as well.

You have to remember that people who see naked breasts ALL DAY, EVERY DAY of the week---don't notice them the way that YOU do.

You...because you're an American...think of Breasts as "SEX" objects. In America, they are used in pornography and shown as sex objects----to be COVERED UP and HIDDEN like something dirty.

So the fact is....there are MILLIONS of African people who would pay no attention to my bare breasts....but would be MORE INTERESTED in the "lines" through my ears.

Of course, you being an American....it never occured to you that the line through my ears could be the SEXY thing.

That's the difference between African women and African-American women, because AA women have a say in whether they want to get naked in front of God and everybody.

Uh, no...that's not a difference.

You seriously need to educate yourself. African women don't HAVE to ever be naked.

MOST African women are now "westernized" and do not go topless.

What would they do to a Nigerian woman that doesn't want to get naked? Stone her ass to death?

OK. I was taking you too seriously. You're really just not familiar with Black culture.

The LINES through my ears
mean that I have left my father's
house

...and that MEN may now
approach me as a
"single woman".

The LINES are the SEXY
thing to African men.

AFRICAN MEN could give
a shit about some titties.

You will notice---they only
care about "ASS"...because
in African culture, the breast
is a "CRUCIFIX", a holy ornament.

It's BLACK AMERICAN and
EUROPEAN and WHITE MEN
who

love my Titties.

And that's fine, too.

My goal as an artist
is to present AFROICOID

IMAGES

that challenge WHITE
Supremacist Images.

As Mari Evans wrote:

Thank you Ms. Kola. I appreciate your response. But I was serious about the stoning thing. I have heard that they stone women who have committed adultery. As far as the 26,000 year history lesson - GirlFriend - I barely have time to know about current events. Does anyone really know about 26,000 years. Look - I'm currently studying Feng Shui, I don't think it goes back that far, but it would take a lifetime to learn all about it. Luckily, I only need to know the parts that pertain to interior design. But I digress. Good luck with the magazine!!!

Kola, that IS a very sexy pose and you DO have an extremely sensual look on your face. I can get with the god and culture thing (even as an ignorant American) but was that sexy, sensual pose necessary for god & culture? Muzri's right, how do you expect people - especially your detractors - to interpret that part?

More importantly, do they plan to retouch the image, because there is a very obvious line of demarcation around the neckline which would seemingly suggest that your head has been pasted on someone else's body.

Duck, Babygirl! Take your choice: foul language or obscene pictures - or, if you're lucky, maybe both! And of course the same ol accusations of jealousy. LMAO.

As many times as my body has been seen topless, the world KNOWS that that's my body by now.

There's plenty of video footage of my head connected to my body as well.

DUH!!!!

TONYA:

If you notice the BACKGROUND of the photo----the White Woman's land (America) is crumbling and falling into flood...as the Nilotic Isis imports her BLACK POWER (her SEX and Genetics) to America.

NOTE the "Black Queen" CHESS piece behind me?????

That is my whole point.

I am not an "American" woman from a Judeo Christian tradition.

I fully understand that nations go to war over women---and that there is NO WAY....NO WAY EVER...that any woman, especially the black woman, can rise--without inserting her SEXUAL POWER...which if you notice, is the very thing they try to pretend Black women don't have.

I am representing a warrior image in this photo--in the background, White Supremacy is FALLING and the "Black Queen" CHESS PIECE is rising.

This culture neuters women by disallowing them to have sexual power....until men want them to.

Black women, more than any other in this society-----NEED sexual power.

I NEVER see images presented of black women as SEXUAL ICONS....so intend to invent some.

Sex is not dirty--and just because a woman OWNS her sexuality, it doesn't mean she's a slut or that she's going to fuck 10 men.

It just means that men can't conquer her through merely her SEXUALITY.

Which is what they do.

Kola, did you have full creative input on your cover? Your explanation of it was quite interesting and I'm curious to know if it was done based on your vision or if the vision of the art department just happened to mirror your own?

Babygirl,

A Fable:

The Nigerian WOMAN editor and the black woman novelist who interviewed me for the article-----asked me if I would be willing to pose topless on the cover.

I said yes, and then because of my CORE OPPOSITION being against "White Supremacy" of the WEST and how it is destroying Black people....

I suggested that I be shown as a topless warrior--SEXY and FEMININE, not "masculine"-----and that I be on top of the Empire State Building with a lynched White Man hanging from my hand.

They said...."Girrrrrl."

No, we can't do that, Kola Boof.

So we settled on Nilotic Kola (the river) FLOODING the White Power and they used a Chess Piece "the Black Queen" as a symbol of me challenging White Power with my bare black breasts.

It "IS" different.

But it's also very artistic and 70 years from now, it will make Historians understand why I was considered so "verbose"----because my books are LITERARY and you would not fathom from reading the actual books...why people thought I was so CRAZY.

Photos like this one, show me as I really am.

THE BLACK WORLD TODAY just announced their 10 books you should read for SPRING 2006.

Kola Boof "Diary of a Lost Girl" was #1....and my love, Michael Eric Dyson's new book was #8.

But they got my book cover wrong!

Beautiful cover. I don't see anything sexy or sensual about it. But of course I am West African, and still believe in most of the truly West AFrican things I know of which include everything you've said about breasts.

I'm surprised you're popular in Nigeria but that's because I have such a jaded view on West AFrica, which seems to be speeding as fast as it can into completely dissappearing into Western and Arabic fakery. But there is hope for West Africa, especially if there is hope for America !

This is a very important step. There are millions and millions of readers in the African Diaspora that we are closed off from.

If we can develop this market we can writes stuff that does not appeal to the white people and still have big sales!

Good show!

I personally don't get the big deal with any woman baring her breasts. If they want to, it's on them. Now, if someone's forced to do so, I'd be pissed.....but I have the same feelings about seeing women covered up. If it's their choice to do so, cool...if they're being forced, then it's a sin.
