Literary Awards Celebrate African American Authors Overview: The African American Literary Award Show (AALAS) is the first of its kind that celebrates the viability and accomplishments of authors of color. Each year the AALAS continues to grow as it has consistently been well-received by the media with coverage ranging from Wire Image to local newspapers and some of the larger online outlets like AOL Black Voices.
