ALL of her book jackets have been Topless, NTFS. This is the final one. Kola does this to honor/represent HER cultural roots and her birth mother & the Oromo/GisiWaaq culture that Kola comes from. *Those women & that culture will be shown in the video. Presently, in 2010, at least 1 million African women go topless to the market, walk children to school, etc. "Topless" every day. 30 years ago, it was 30 million a day. This has always been an integral part of indigenous Black Culture and Kola seeks to de-stigmatize African women as "backwards, savage" for being topless. In other words: A woman who lectures at Universities, writes books, writes television shows and goes topless during prayer---is not easy for Whites to portray as "backwards, unintelligent or savage." So Kola uses herself to make that statement on behalf of traditional African women. Now if you have only known American Slave Culture and been raised Christian and all that in the United States--it makes sense that you might not grasp why this is an important statment. But Kola has been applauded by many very important African scholars/authors such as Chinua Achebe, Chinweizu for going topless. It's something more understood/debated by Kola's African readers. African American readers just find it either Alien or Artistic. White readers interpret is as "anger." - | ||

Nels, You're going to be disappointed when you see the video because Kola's breasts "WITHOUT A PUSH-UP BRA" are nowhere near that large. The video will also show that they're 100% all natural..."steroid" boobs don't droop & sling around, not just jiggle, but SLANG with movement. Those photos above show Kola with a "push-up" bra on. Her breasts are not that humongous. They're about the same size as when she was pregnant in the "Long Train" photo. |
