Personally I like the posters with the image of Precious with the butterfly wings. http://kissmyblackads.blogspot.com/2009/11/precious-plagiarism.html BTW, I still haven't seen the movie or read the book. I feel as if I have, though, I have read so much commentary about both. When I do either, I'll probably now feel incredibly let down--neither as offended or inspired as the two extremes have claimed. |

I am sorta feeling the same way. I love good acting, and that's the principle reason I've found to see the movie. Other than that, I haven't found a purpose to run out and see it. Or, to go to my barber shop for a bootleg copy. |

Hello All, Well, I read the book years ago and just saw the movie this Friday. Besides the fact that Cynique's granddaughters had to bring their crying brats to the movie, I LOVED Precious. The acting was top of the line Marvelous! I see now that the early Oscar buzz for Gabby and Moni'que are justified. Actually, Moni'que's Oscar should be a done deal! But, we'll see how it goes. |

Thumper, your comment has sealed the deal. I am off to see the movie. Many may not know that you don't miss on your Oscar picks. If you say Moni'ques's Oscar is on it's way. I am inclined to believe you. |

Wow, what a glowing review, Thumper! What are your thoughts about the movie as compared to the book? I know you have been on somewhat of a kick lately of book-movie adaptations... |

Well, Thumper, the argument could be made, and even Monique admits it, that her acting wasn't that much of a stretch for her because she's familiar with the degradation found in the ghetto, and her persona in real life is that of a "street bytch". Meryl Streep, also a favorite to cop an Oscar nomination for her highly-touted portrayal of Julia Child, may take it all. Hollywood politics will come into play. I don't know whose grandchildren were disrupting your enjoyment of the movie but you know Cynique is too "bougie" to have granddaughters who even have kids, much less bring them to the show. |

Hello All, Yvette: I thought the movie stayed pretty close to the book. I admired how Daniels dealt with the physical and sexual abuse Precious suffered at the hands of her mother and fatehr. The sexual abuse was shown in snippets and sounds when the screen was black which seem to intensify it for me, but he didn't dwell on it. I thought that was a creative way of depiciting that sort of violence. And Gabby, I mean, the more I think of her performance, it was a quiet, devastating performance. Her whole performance is in her face. I have been on the book-movie adaptation kick. I had to put out some reviews and I'm looking forward to getting back to it. I read Mildred Pierce and only half of it is like the movie. The last half is totally different. For instance, Monty does not get killed in the book. Veda is worse in the book than in the movie. I'm reading Kimberla Lawson's new novel and have a few others coming up before I can launch into The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Carey: I'm surprised that you haven't seen it yet. You know with the movie winning all of those movie festival prizes that the movie wasn't the standard bull. Cynique: You know you need to get your grandchildren in check with all of those damn babies. Why even bring them to the movie anyway, especially a movie like Precious!? It's ridiculous! When the Oscar nominations come out, Meryl Streep will not be competing against Monique. Monique most likely will be in the Best Supporting Actress category, while Gabby should be under the Best Actress category. But, while I know my Academy. I'm making those two prediction on a bit of shaky ground because its still a little early to see how the Golden Globe and Screen Actor Guild nominations comes out. The Academy dont have any qualms in passing negroes up for Oscars. But, I'm keeping my fingers cross for these two actress. I am also hoping that the movie gets a Best Picture, and Best Director nod as well. And I wouldn't be at all surprise if Paula Patton manages to get a nomination as well. We'll see... |

Thump, I am sorry to say that I live in a cornfield. These white folks ain't gonna have the damn movie until DECEMBER! BUT, check this out. Huggie Bear, my movie man, hit me with a copy, right. That SOBin' movie was so terrible I couldn't even watch it. I knew I'd been had when only half of Monique's face fit in the screen. I put up with about 30 seconds of that mess. See what you made me do. The next time you make me lose my money, we're gonna have some problems. |

I think both Monique and newcomer Gaby will have to be content with just "the honor of just being nominated" for an Oscar. After Jennifer's Hudson's cinderella story, I wonder whether the debut performance of another black actress will earn the little statue. If, like last year's contest that pitted 2 black actresses against each other, both Gaby and Monique are nominated, they will cancel each other out; something the Academy might count on. We shall see. |

I know you'll babble "Price Waterhouse". Were you in the U.S. in 2000 and 2004, or do we have to tell you about votings and elections? I knew you was out of it. But I didn't know you was THAT far out of it!) |

Stfu, Chrishayden. Who said I take all of this seriously? I merely added my comment to others that were being made about the possibility of the actresses who starred in "Precious" winning Oscars. FYI, however, Hollywood takes the Oscars very seriously, and the awarding of them is what the billion-dollar movie industry looks forward to every year. And the fact that you can't accept this is just another example of how you mistakenly believe what you think, counts. |
