I hope to never hear her name again. The O phenomenon is O-ver. Her audience is half what it was. All the Conservative women are mad at her. I heard she is going to have her own cable network--all Oprah, all the time--and probably will keep that abominable magazine and keep sticking her nose where it don't belong |

Oprah's retiring after 25 years. Just think. There is a whole generation of young adults who've hever known a time when Oprah wasn't on TV. She's right up there with Sesame Street and Big Bird. She's had a good run, and I applaud her for knowing that it's time to move on. Hasta la vista, baby. |

Oprah is not great. She's just rich and famous; like Paris Hilton. You have to be a tad suspicious of any black woman who garners the approval of so many white people. |

Harriett Tubman couldn't shine Oprahs shoes. Lets be real about this, 99 out of 100 people couldn't tell you 1 iota of Harriett Tubman's accomplishements. Don't believe me?, ask it, try it, see how you like it. Many "might" say that she's was an old black slave. Some might even say she's Ozzie's wife. Some ARE going to say she was the woman that got kicked off that bus. Really, that fact that several individuals can not relate to her, and knows nothing about her, gives a small clue to how great she was. She may have been a bone for those who wanted to champion a black person in American history, but... Great is reserve for those that far excede the accomplishments of others and spreads their "wealth"/"knowledge" along the way. Greatness is reserved for those that break through a glass ceiling and then puts the ceiling in the basement. Greatness is reserved for those that have the courage and wisdom to withstand attacks from the front & the back, from the rich & the poor, from BLACKS & WHITE. Great is reaching back to give back. Greatness is reaching back to a land that most blacks could call home. Some call it the motherland. Although money is not the road to happiness, it's great that Opray has given hundreds of millions of dollar to causes that nobody else dared to mention. Great is a person that can win the approval of others inspite of her skin color. Oprah stands alone in her greatness. Although many woman have done great things, no ones lists of accomplishment come close to that of Oprah's. Her greatness extends beyound the boarders of America. Oprah is the GREATEST of them all. |

How dare you say Harriet Tubman couldn't shine Oprah's shoes just because she isn't widely-known, Carey. You are apparently a person who is easily impressed, a groupie in awe of someone who has acquired fame and fortune as opposed to someone who who was in the vangard of leading Blacks out of slavery. Plugging books that make the author a lot of money is not on a par with that. Or is erecting a monument to yourself, - a girls' school in Africa instead of America, an outstanding deed. Fame is not synonymous with greatness. But being brave and courageous, and having grace under pressure, are traits that certainly are. What brave courageous things has Oprah done? She is generous, yes, but she can well afford to be. But what sacrifices has she made? She's self- absorbed and preoccupied with protecting her images as she scrupulously tries to avoid anything that will affect her ratings, throwing her weight around in the process of doing so. She is indeed, a world-wide figure, but there are thousands of black women who, just in striving to survive the day-to-day pressures that accrue to those who were not in the right place at the right time, are as admirable as someone like Winfrey who is not especially brilliant, but very good at tearing up on camera. People idolize Oprah but why? She is a false idol. She tells them to just think like she did and they can make it. Puleeze. The big ol cow is full of it. The b i t c h got lucky. Call me a hater and say I am jealous of "O" and I say. So? Whachoo gonna do bout it? I am a lover of people who I can look up to, and if a not being able to live a life of opulent luxury like Oprah makes me, jealous, well....too bad. Now, - back to Serena... |

It will be interesting to observe whether and to what degree Oprah's great media power lingers when she no longer speaks to 9 MILLION viewers every weekday. Gottah give her credit, though. Announcing her retirement 2 years in advance is a savvy marketing ploy, especially since her ratings have been plummenting in recent years, due, apparently, in no small part to her early and vigorous support of the Obama Presidential Candidacy. This 2-year Count Down To The End of OPRAH!! is likely to boost her Nielsen numbers, perhaps even up to the height of her fat, long suffering, manbashing days. |

Wow Carey you reaction to Harriett Tubman was too disturbing to even reply to. In all seriousness I'm surprised at you. Just suffice it to say that celebrity and money are not indicators of greatness. It is this type of thinking that has us worshiping rappers, drug kingpins and basketball stars. |

"Wow Carey you reaction to Harriett Tubman was too disturbing to even reply to. In all seriousness I'm surprised at you. Troy, stop playing the violin. Troy wrote: "Just suffice it to say that celebrity and money are not indicators of greatness. Troy wrote: "Just suffice it to say that celebrity and money are not indicators of greatness. It is this type of thinking that has us worshiping rappers, drug kingpins and basketball stars" Now that's a reaction that's indicative of someone that wishes to refute the facts but lacks an argument against it. Your remark was a lame attempt... a 101 ploy to attach guilt by association. Look, who's saying celebrity and money are indicators of greatness. Check the records, it's what they do with their money and their position as a celebrity. Oprah is a face and a voice that millions of black kids have never seen before. She's not pushing drugs. She's an "example" of what a life of a black woman can be. She's not saying shot a basketball like me! Troy, your low ball attempt to connect Oprah with drug kingpins and rappers, is only fodder for the mindless or fools. Your remarks were disturbing, I am ashamed of you. Troy, please, come with some substance. I laid out my reasoning for calling Oprah great. You have said nothing to dispute that. Your vain attempt to down her did not wash. No Troy, your "reaction" was shameless. I thought you were a better man than that. |

Carey is apparently unaware of how many rappers and black athletes give back to the community, establishing foundations to help youngsters, voluteering their time to encourage them. Sure, they do it as tax write-offs and to enhance their image, but that's why they are on a par with the great philanthropist Oprah. |

cynique: "Carey's sermon was just a bull-headed charade designed to disguise the fact that he had no rebuttal" Cynique, your propensity to run from facts, grounds you in foolishness. My post IS my rebuttal. A few of Troy's remarks appeared to have a goal of playing to those who didn't see one of my lines "Couldn't shine her shoes" as a cliche. He knows there are several intelligent individuals that read this board with a very discerning eye. Hence, his remarks were like a slap in the face to THOSE "other" than the few that have a tendency to take a cynical approach to most comments that hit this board. Therefore, my rebuttal to his lowball approach still stands. My original post speaks for itself. Cynique: "great philanthropist Oprah" So you did read the whole posts. That's great, you are growing. So you also read the title: "Don't hate the playa". See Cynique, that's all you've managed to do is hate the players. Some of your retorts is similar to a person that attempts to advance their position by pushing another person down in the mud. Case in point, you failed to concede that Oprah has spent time an effort on many great endeavors. You even implied that she has given away nearly one-half BILLION dollars to save a few million. How ludicruss a statement? You could not even admit that she's a beckon of positivity. No, all your comments were akin to slinging mud on her. Open-minded and keen eyed individuals read this board, Cynique. Your opinions about Oprah's motives behind her good deeds, speaks volume to your inabilty to see the forest because of the trees. What kind of a fool would have the audacity to speak about the motives of someone else... as if they are facts That type of person shines a huge light on their ass. It's ugly! Now, of course I am only speaking about those that do that. I hope nobody raises their hand. |

What are you jabbering about, Carey? Still giving praise to Queen Oprah without providing us with the "facts" you are so enamoured with? All of that composing a response for nothing. Guess you didn't notice that I deleted my post hours ago because I decided it serves no purpose to deconstruct your intellect. And talk about rebuttals, all you do is co-op the arguments of your opponents and try to make their points your own. You transposed everything Troy said, making his words your words because you rarely have an original thought. And, about all the other black celebs who give back to the community in a manner commensurate with their wealth, what say you? All of this blather about what Oprahs gives. It's easy to be charitable when you have billions. Even I would be magnanimous were I rich. "O" is no more praise-worthy than somebody who makes $25,000 a year and donates 10 bucks to UNICEF. Give it a rest. |

What would ol hang mouth Carey do if he couldn't attribute everything that I say to my being a hater. He thinks just because he luvs everything and is too spineless to challenge popular opinion that everybody should emulate him and never rock the boat or stir up controversy. He can't endure hell-raisers because he's a wimp. Other people disagree with me but they just say what they have to say and keep on steppin. They don't feel the need to try and reform me with a bunch of platitudes. |

Carey, One of the reasons I like the way you presented this. Was the way you showed how very little we do know about Harriet Tubman relative to Oprah Winfrey. For me, that's a question which is motivational in seeking to find out more about her more than the typical story. Again, I like that relative to Oprah, because we all know her and her story. Overall, this was a great presentation my brother!!! ~ R |

Who the hell is "R"? And he should speak for himself when he says how little "we" know about Harriet Tubman in relation to Oprah Winfrey. There is no comparison between the 2 women. Harriet Tubman risked life and limb to escort runaway slaves up north to freedoom. Oprah tells giddy females about a fabulous pair of jeans for big-butt women that cost $600. Or how to remodel your condo for under $5000 She'll also throw in some recommendations about what books to read. And just to keep things interesting when she isn't sticking her nose into the private lives of crack heads like Whitney Houston, she'll have as a guest a women whose face has been ripped off by a monkey. |
