Since self indulgence has started to be the order of the day around here, far be it from me to pass up a chance to again talk about me, myself and I. I'll start the first leg of my ego trip by saying that since early childhood, I have been someone who consumes all type of reading matter. I kid young folks when they talk about Googling because senior citizens like me don't have to click on links every time we want data. What we do is delve into our memory banks where a wealth of information is stored, and this enables us to contribute pertinent commentary when a subject comes up. We know a little bit about a lot of things. Only a fool would believe that everything a person expresses is something they are trying to pass off as an original thought. Knowledge is accumulated by looking and listening and - reading, and it is what aware people call upon when forming the opinions that are filtered through their experiences. But there's a certain un-dynamic duo hereabouts, who think that I, in particular, am guilty of cutting and pasting material, trying to pass it off as my own. Whatever. Some folks are so lacking in scope that they have to cast doubt on others in order to compensate for their own limitations. But - it takes all of kinds of people… Moving right along, the inimitable Chrishayden remarked that 65-70 years is a long enough time to spend in this hell hole, after somebody posted an article about the oldest women in the world dying at 115. To a certain extent, I agree and not because Nels, in all of his brutal honesty, disses all old black women as looking like dogs. Needless to say this cat is partial to his own kind. Wonder if he thinks all “mixed” old women look like skunks? But, I digress. I am jaded and often get impatient with trying to make the world over in my image and discouraged with trying to adjust to the craziness of what now passes for normalcy. On the positive side, however, I do have a lot to be grateful for and the day I become incapable of relating to the 15 different personalities who make up a family circle where members range in age from 5 to 50, is the day I will be ready to pack it in. Did I say, next week? Good-Bye, cruel world! Until then, I will continue to shift into the alternate universe of the cyber world, stopping by Thumper's Corner to carry out my mission to be a “creative nuisance“, grateful to this forum for exposing me to an interesting cross section of people, appreciative of how this gathering simulates a cocktail party where I can gad-a-bout and engage in provocative tete-a-tete. Well, I'm done. I will now take the liberty of lifting a glass to toast my favorite boardmates. Cheers! Clink. Gulp. |

I started to create a new thread for this but I think this will fit here just fine. First I want to apologize for taking this long to read your book. I had ADD (Attention.....) EVERY time I tried to start it. Not a problem with your book but my mind wandered EVERY time I started it even today. But I FORCED myself to finish it as Im on a reading kick. I read 26 books in May as an example. Ms Cynique. I do NOT know why your not pushing this book. I L O V E D it and see it as a movie. Terrance Howard as Craig. Your characters were wonderful and I want more. What happened to Shirley? It was a wonderful read and I thank you for writing this story. |

Thank you for reading "Along The Way", LiLi! I forgot you requested a copy of it, and I'm glad you liked it! My books always unfold in my mind like movies, and I just try to translate images and scenarios into words and transfer words onto a blank page. Terrance Howard as Craig? Maybe. Shirley? She ended up happily married to Henry.(see pgs 74 through 76) I don't know why I didn't push the book more. I was just too lazy to do all it takes to effectively market a product. The book was sort of a labor of love and once I published it, I was just kinda done.... |

Cynique, you know you have all the free book promtion you want right here. Cynique, do you find that your peers (women your age) are as deep as you are? Seriously; are they able to relate anything interesting about themselves or experiences? Are they able to converse on a wide variety of subjects in a meaningful way? Your family is very fortunate. I hope they realize this. Peace, Troy |

Yes, feel free to give "Along The Way" a thumbs up, LiLi. Actually, I received mixed feed-back from this book. A lot of people, like you, loved the characters and, in turn, liked the book. Others thought it was too short and wanted more detail. But, minimalism is just my style. I could re-write it and develop it better and then try to get an agent or at least a distributor and - if I were younger and more energetic, I would think about that. But... |

Thanks Troy! You know you were one of the ones I had in mind when I was making my toast. At this point in my life, I'm just cruising. One of the greatest rewards a person receives from writing a book is having it read, so if anybody on this board wants a complimentary copy of "Along The Way" they can e-mail me at LanPbls130@aol.com and I'll send them a copy. All of the old friends I had things in common with have either died or moved away except for one, who is now in ill health, so when I socialize it's with my daughters and their friends and we derive mutual benefits from our association. The household I grew up in shaped me and my siblings and with all of us being cut from the same cloth, which was more like a crazy quilt, we were all wise-crackin voracious readers. My grandchildren appreciate Nana and her credit cards very much. |

I am jaded and often get impatient with trying to make the world over in my image and discouraged with trying to adjust to the craziness of what now passes for normalcy (This is Our Time. There will be great and terrible wonders. Earthquakes. Cosmic shocks. Rejoice. Those that come out the other side will have a mighty tale to tell) |
