Hey, my daughter went to the Jamie Fox concert. She said it was great. 8pm to 11pm, nonstop. But this is what I want to know. She said one of the opening acts was the lead singer from Floetry. Now, she said she looked different (much slimmer) AND she has a husband. Okay, is it true that she is no longer with Floetry? I know they haven't been on the scene in quite some time BUT married - to a man? Fact or fiction? |

Hey, Carey. ALthough I liked Floetry and got their first album, I never knew a whole lot about their personal lives. So I can't answer your questions. But now Ima pick on your daughter: 8 to 11? That's all? That's not a concert; that's a happy hour! Now, back in the day... LOL |

Bless her heart, $150.00 for 3 hours. And they can't even carry in their own drinks. But, she said it was good :-) I still have one of my stubs from a Prince concert (back in the day) $12.50 |

LOL @ Carey's daughter. You know, I can't go to those old school "reunion" concerts. I have no desire to see artists I used to revere hobble on stage in a walker, attached to oxygen or an IV drip, trying to huff and puff through their old concert routines. No thanks. Having said that, some artists appear to still have It. Like Prince (speaking of partying like it's 1999). His hips may not like it, but I swear the man in aging backwards: Prince-amin Buttons! LOL Also speaking of Prince: I may know of a story of a young high school gal who went to see Prince with her girlfriends (pre-driver's license) and arranged with her father to pick them up at X time (say 11:30), but the concert did not end until over an hour after this time, and this gal--whose father does.not.play.--left and drove back home and went to bed when they were not at the agreed upon spot at the agreed upon time, leaving said gal and her friends stranded until they could call someone else (pre cell phone) at o'dark o'clock in the morning to come pick them up... I may know of a story that goes something like that. But do not share it with your daughter, Carey! LOL |

I know of a guy that went to a concert (The Impressions) and got drunk (pre-driver's license). He doesn't remember when he got home because he was drunk - okay. His daddy & momma -- who did not play -- left his drunk behind on the front porch (after his uncle dropped him there) ALL NIGHT. He lost his desire to ever get drunk again. I may know a story that goes something like that. But do not share it with my daughter, Yvettep. LOL I can't promise you anything in regards to that friend of yours. I might tell my daughter that story. I'll just say they were not partying like it was 1999, they were partying back in 1979 *smirk*. Speaking of old school reunions. The Temptation are in town. Someone asked me if I was planning on going. I asked them why would I do that. Like you, I get no pleasure in watching the old Temptations. First, they ain't the Temptations - Okay. Those buys are a bunch of old fat dudes and 1 temp. Please, spare me that misery. |

When I saw that you had posted, I had to see what you had to say, Yvette. It took me a second to figure out the "Prince-amin Buttons" reference, but then I got it! Clever. You know how I love puns. In plowing through all the verbiage following Michael Jackson's death, I had confirmed what I had often heard, the story that MJ and Quincy Jones tried to get Prince to be in the "Bad" video, playing the role later filled by Wesley Snipes. Prince refused, naturally, saying that Michael didn't need him to boost his record sales, remarking behind MJ's back that he didn't want Michael singing the words, "your butt is mine" to him. Had you heard that? And speaking of half-steppin comebacks, I am wondering if Whitney will hit the tour circuit. She seems to have trouble even talking, speaking in a rather raspy tone, and I suspect she's lost her singing voice, because she couldn't adequately perform at her free concert on "Good Morning America". This, of course, would be no problem in recording an album because producers could electronically enhance her voice. We shall see... |

Happy to oblige You know, I was never a Whitney fan. I wish her well, but I cannot see that she could put anything out now that would suddenly make me like her. I gotta say, tho, those Oprah promos featuring Houston look like a Saturday Night Live spoof: I am on the floor LOLing every time it comes on! What I have been looking forward to is Jay-Z's comeback. I'm about to listen to it right now! |

Back in the day you could do this and be sure they'd arrive home late but duly chastened. Nowadays you run the risk of having to go down and identify them at the morgue. So true, Chris. Even "back in the day" we were pretty lucky. Guess the gods really do take care of stupid, naive, know-it-all teenage girls... |

You been layin back in the cut, staying mum, FK. Listening and learning? Or listening and laughing at the absurdity that runs rampant on this site. |

LOL, Cynique. I'll cop to listening, learning, and laughing. Alas, I have no good concert stories to share. Wait...yes, I do. Erykah Badu's "Frustrated Artist" tour, c. 2002/2003 (after "Mama's Gun", but right before "Worldwide Underground" dropped). I was married-with-children by then, so no hijinks, HOWEVER...when Ms. Badu crowd surfed, her butt landed in my open palms. Remember her "Earth Mama" vibe in the "Tyrone" video? Well, she buried that, and was all the way live on this tour. This is when she lost the headwrap and debuted the huge Afro wig. Nearly 3 hours straight...and not a single off note. Common made a surprise appearance on "Love of My Life" (they were together then), and everyone rushed the stage (I nearly lost my glasses). You can still catch me rocking that concert t-shirt. "Tour" is in small print, so it just looks like "Frustrated Artist". Oh, and I caught Prince's "Musicology" tour a few years ago, and cried like a baby. That's all I got, lol! |

Well, thanks for the taking us back to a momentous occasion, FK, altho I should've made it clear that it wasn't the pop culture thread I was referring to when I used the word "absurd". |

Oh, *that* absurdity, lol. That's like watching a tennis match; I get whip-lash! And given Serena's recent outburst, the comparison is quite apt! |

The VH1 awards last night weren't half bad. Madonna paying a verbal tribute to her contemporary Michael Jackson and Janet doing a live version of the video she and Michael did together were among the highlights. And how lucky can Beyonce get? She emerged smelling like a rose, after making amends for Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for an award he thought Beyonce should've won. While accepting another award and sharing the spotlight by inviting Taylor back on stage to finish her acknowledgments, Beyonce made herself look like the epitome of graciousness, and she's who everyone is praising today. And who said Bey can't act? Her smile looked very genuine as she watched her man Jay-Z and Alicia Keys get down on stage during their duet which ended with a lingering hug. Kanye is a certified nut case. Refreshing, yet filling. He needs to be kept on a leash by a trainer until he graduates from obedience school. |
