Amazing. I just KNEW that Negroes would be on here slobbering all over his corpse. I once earned the ire of the Late Margaret Bush Wilson by cracking that he would have been President if he hadn't drowned that girl. Anyways, you can forget about anything happening anytime soon with Health Care even if JESUS comes back and tells the Congress to do it. Obama may be toast. Chris Matthews, who I am now convinced is absolutely insane, just said Obama is the Last Kennedy Brother. Brother better stop going out in them crowds. And he better stay out of Texas. |

Black people were conspicuously absent among the crowds filing past Kennedy's coffin and lining the streets to watch his funeral procession. Very few black faces among the mourners at the church, too. This generation of Blacks do not seem to be that familiar or impressed with the Kennedy mystique, and probably took Ted for granted, considering him to be just another old white-haired Democrat who backed Obama. Personally, I had a certain amount of affection for the ol rascal. He had a wreckless youth. But later in life, this "have" redeemed himself by doing a lot of good for the "have-nots". Emerging from their inconspicuosness, however, were Kennedy's 2 grown sons, giving a very good accounting of themselves while eulogizing their father. I don't think Obama ought to count on becoming the "black sheep" of the Kennedy family. There's enough Kennedy cousins to take up the torch and they don't need an adopted "Uncle Sambo". |

Hello All, I have to disagree with Cynique on black people being absent among the crowds filing past Kennedy's coffin. Actually, I saw more than a few black folks paying their last respects. I have much respect for Sen. Kennedy, much more than for either of his brothers. I don't know where Obama being a pseudo Kennedy came from, but it needs to go back. If Obama was anything like Kennedy, he but kicking ass for the public option in the health care reform and not taking crap from those Republicans. |

Personally, I had a certain amount of affection for the ol rascal. (I did too until he got his nephews into that rape scrape. THEY are the kids. THEY are in bed at 2-3 am like good Christian gentlemen. TEDDY comes in and gets them up yelling, "Dudes! Let's party!" or something like that. Takes them out, rampaging through the clubs. One of THEM winds up with a rape case. There are reports of him climbing up on folks' boats and beating them up--until he wasn't able to he was out of control. I loved the stances he took on most stuff, but it just seemed like he had that Kennedy curse, thinking he could do anything he wanted |

The letter Ted wrote to the Pope and which was made public after being read at his funeral was very heartfelt but, ever the politician, it was essentially him copping a plea, - a final effort to clean up his checkered legacy. R.I.P., Teddy. Ya done OK. |

Chrishayden -- and that that is just the stuff we know about. The man "topped off" (as Carey calls it). I'm almost 50 and I doubt if anyone I know my age or younger cared for Ted at all. Go a couple of decades younger and those youngins probably never knew who Ted was (outside the New England States). It was MY parents generation that had pictures of JFK, RFK and Martin in their homes. |

Scuse me while I high-jack this post. In regard to the younger, generation, Troy, they don't know who anybody is. Omigosh. MLK is just a really great black man who provides a school holiday for them. Barak, of course, inspires black boys to believe they can grow up to be anything they want; just like Kobe Bryant or Lil Wayne. 'Know what I'm sayin? I saw Jay-Z grant a rare interview to Bill Mahr on his "Real Time" Show the other night. I kept getting the feeling that Jay-Z would've been more comfortable rapping his answers, rather than stammering them in a slightly incoherent fashion. The same thing with Prince. I recently saw an extended interview with him on Tavis Smiley's show. Tavis was in rare form, asking a lot of silly convoluted questions, and Prince just sat there all prim and prissy, pursing his lips and speaking in riddles. I don't question Jay-Z's intelligence or shrewdness but being articulate is not his strong suit. Still, I could see what Beyonce would see in him. He's very self-contained, and his money makes him sexy. And she ain't that eloquent, herself. Prince? I used to love him. Now, - not so much. Becoming a Jehovah's Witness has changed him from being edgy to being geeky. What I once thought was mysterious now just seems ridiculous. He currently claims to be celibate. Watta drag. His last album was OK, mostly because it was reminiscent of old Prince in parts. Forget his latest prodigy. I know, I know. But just think, folks. When you get 76 like me, you can spout whatever you damn well please and not give a good f u c k who you offend. |

Cynique, that Tavis interview was just uncomfortable. I mean, I love Prince, but even *I* thought "If this man gushes over Prince one more time I'm gonna scream!" He seemed more interested in showing the audience what good friends he and the Purple One were rather than asking him a daggon question. Further proof--if I ever needed one--why I have never been a Tavis Smiley fan. The other thing that came through in that interview (or maybe it was the one with his quote-unquote protege that I only saw a few moments of) is how Prince seems to attract these "exotic looking" women he meets while they were teens. "Celibate" or not, he better watch himself less he end up in R. Kelly's and MJ's courtroom. |

Yvette, think about it: All these years, and all this allegedly freakiness, and have you ever heard any specific gossip about Prince's sexscapades? I tend to keep a wealth of mindless pop culture trivia and gossip in my head, and I've never heard anything. Who is he paying off? Or do the tales never make it outside of Minneapolis???? |

I heard a few years ago that Prince took Marvin Gaye's daughter, Nona, into his residence in Minneapolis where she became his love slave and he became her Svengali. I also remember when Sinead OConner publicly outed him for becoming too amorusly aggressive, expecting her to show him her gratitude for writing "Nothing Compares To You", the song that was a big hit for her. |

Oh my, do I hear the voices of skeptical women that can not get with the fact that there ARE good men around. Why do there have to be payoffs? If there's no stories like R. Kelly - there's no stories! How do you define "love slave"? It appears to be two adults enjoying each others company. I've never liked that plastic fake, Travis "yes man" Smiley. But come on ladies, why yawl hating on Prince? What's really goin' on? That reminds me, who was that who bet me that Chris Brown would go to jail. I've come for my payoff. |

We don't know whether Nona was enjoying Prince's company or not because the story goes that she was homeless due to drug addiction and he expected her to be high on him instead of drugs and if Nona wanted to keep a roof over her head, she had to go along with Prince's demands. She's an Amazon and if she wasn't turned on by elfs, she had to fake it. Did anybody really think Chris Brown would do time??? |

Yeah Cynique, I think it was Mocha Mint or Brown Robin. I'll have to go back and do a little research. If Nona was faking it, there has been a whole lot of shakin' & fakin' goin' on because Prince has been with gorgeous woman and I am not talking about one night stands. |

Cynique: I bow down to your Pop Culture Trivia/Gossip Supremacy! Carey: ???? There are stories besides those "like R. Kelly" worth telling, and it's not unheard of for folks to extort or attempt to extort $ from celebrities with secrets to keep. What does any of that have to do with "good men"? I like Prince (no hate here), but I am curious as to how he's kept his name (mostly, per Cynique) out of the tabloids/gossip mills all these many decades, given his hypersexual (until recently) persona--cuz sex sells. I always imagined that he chooses his women extremely well (discretion), or that he puts it down such that they are loyal to the death, lol. |

Oh Kitty, I thought you were implying that Prince had sordid stories of underage sex and the like. Therefore I was quetioning why he would have to pay someone to keep the stories under wraps, if there wasn't any. We cool. Sex sells, that's true, however, hypersexual activity in and of itself doesn't make for good reading. And I think you hit it on the head when you said he chooses his woman extremely well. Kitty, now you know the worst thang a woman can do is tell her girlfriend or any other women about the ooooouuuLaLa. You might hear the story again with a different flavor .....ouuu -LaLa- Pop goes the weasel -- girl should have kept her mouth closed :-) |

@Carey: Oh, no...I wasn't thinking about anything Statutory R. Kelly-related. *Anything* sexual related to celebrities seems to make for good reading, if the popularity of the gossip rags is any indication. See the rise of TMZ. There was a recent celebrity "sex" tape--actor and actress (married), and another woman, naked in a hot tub. Folks called it a sex tape, even though there was no sex. Americans, for all our trashiness, are still, to some degree, prudish and/or repressed. So we find the slightest hint of sex titillating. As for telling your girlfriend about your man's prowess...let me tell you who schooled me about that. Two people, actually. First, there was a woman I met who was in her 60s at the time, and she and her husband were friends with this other similarly-aged couple. She didn't really like the other wife, but she tolerated her and her tales of how great her sex life was, despite her husband's advanced age. So, this woman decided to be a bit devious--called the other woman's husband up, and just invited him to do the deed. His ego couldn't resist. Needless to say, his wife was writing checks that his "friend" couldn't cash... Second, my fiance...his ex had a habit of telling her girlfriends about their sex life, but then got mad when someone she thought was a friend propositioned him. Most women I know like to gab about their exes (the hits and the misses), not the current squeeze, lol. What on earth does any of this have to do with Ted Kennedy!! Only on AALBC... |

Well Kitty, Ol Teddy didn't crash into a tree like our other Teddy. But I've heard it said that he too loved a little nooky on the side, and while doing the "ten toes up, and one head down" he drove into a bay. Sooooo, Prince ain't the only one with a hyperextend penis. That's how we got to Ted via Prince ...got it? |

Yvette, Prince's baby son was born with a birth defect; the plates of his skull never completely fused together, so Prince and his wife, Mayte, opted to let little "Gregory" die since his brain was also underdeveloped. You and FK are, of course, aware that Prince was married. Twice. |

Cynique, I guess I did recall that part. But wasn;t there someone--an employee or something of his--who was threatening to talk more about it? What happened to that, I wonder? Carey, I , too, am not quite following your Tues 1:29 pm post. SInce I brought up the young girls point, though, I will own up to it: This new protege makes at least the 3rd woman I have found about (and one was one of his wives) who he initially met while she was a teen. In both cases I have heard the stories go that nothing happened until they are of age. I do stand by my statement that what ever did or did not happen, anyone in his position needs to be a lot more careful about perceptions when it comes to that kind of thing. That has nothing to do with "hating" on Prince. As I said, I am a big fan. And it really has nothing to do with :good men" generally. No idea where you got that from. FK, I did read a recent interview with Wendy and Lisa. In it they joked that because they said something about Prince, that they'd be getting a call from him. I think it may be that he just engenders a lot of loyalty with the people he works with (and, perhaps, has intimate relationships with). Back to the late Sen Kennedy. Once when I lived in Boston I was driving to work. There was a traffic jam up ahead and I was getting very annoyed, sure I was about to be late. Then, out of nowhere, this good looking young man with prominent front teeth and a head full of sandy blond curls literally sticks his head in my car window, introduces himself, and asked me to please vote for him. Can;t remember which Kennedy kid it was. But he was very lucky I had had my coffee and my wits about me or else I would have screamed my head off and rolled my car window up on him! LOL |

Snide humor doesn't seem to work in this medium. I think it needs a voice tone to be effective. My statement about hating on prince was just words to fill the sentence. But I do question this >>>>.."I do stand by my statement that what ever did or did not happen, anyone in his position needs to be a lot more careful about perceptions when it comes to that kind of thing" Okay, the man is 50 yrs old, very successful - right. It appears you've done your homework so I'll take your word on his past relationships. So tell me, why on earth should he "be a lot more careful?". I mean, if this has been his life and he's still doing fine, why should he fall into the bottomless pit of worrying about the "perceptions" of others. I could see your point if he was straight out of the gate. And even then, it hasn't seemed to hurt the careers of others that have closer links to what you are implying. Perceptions of other ....ummmmm. |

LOL how this thread started off about Ted Kennedy (RIP) and has ended up a gossip-fest about Prince! (That is fascinating. And Freudian. I mean Teddy Kennedy was supposed to be a bedroom athlete much like Prince once portrayed himself. I think there was a certain amount of bluster in both cases--but I never seen Prince endanger everything for sex and reckless as the Kennedy boyz and old Joe did. I mean, with Prince you got not one rape case. Nor have I heard tales of Paternity suits. All of them get Paternity suits. |
