One unintended legacy of Michael Jackson’s death was the exposure of how slow traditional news media organization appeared in covering this story compared to a focused internet based operation like TMZ. I think it established TMZ as the default for breaking news and created a behavior change for a story like this. Print newspapers seemed to be light years behind and even cable news operations were hard pressed to catch up.

The relentless media machine creates it own reality as it starts to report on itself. Today TMZ, CNN and a major newspaper were interviewing each other. The mainstream media realizes that it could not keep up with internet based organizations in covering Michael's story and were trying to poke holes in TMZ’s methods to create seeds of doubt.

(Slow? What was the time gap, two, three hours?

This was't important news. Who gave a damn besides Black Folks, the Vice Cops, the Child Abuse people, and those saps at AEG who had to turn all that money back over.

I don't think it proved anything of the sort.

Let's see if TMZ can beat any of the others reporting on the next financial disaster or the war in Afghanistan.
