Last week I was standing in line to buy bar-b-q turkey necks to take to my parent’s house for the holiday and there were two more-than-grown men [one even had gray hair] in line behind us talking. I wasn’t paying any attention to their convo because I was having my own but then I heard one of them say M-F a couple of times. Loud enough for folks around them to hear and kinda look around to see what kind of fool would be talking like that around the older grannies and kids. Did I mention the bbq is sold on the parking lot of a church?!? Now, I hear this kinda of language from teenagers all the time on the bus [sometimes – not often - one will even look over at me and whisper to the other not to talk like that around the lady] but these were not teenagers. They were past grown men neatly dressed, shoes clean, hair combed and beards groomed. During our time in line they let out a few more expletives and it really surprised and saddened me. I know this is not just a Black thing. Society as a whole has gotten more and more disrespectful. But since I spend most of my down time with Black people – that’s who I’m concerned with. I’m not trying to be prissy and I ain’t gonna lie, I’ve been known to issue a few questionable words or phrases myself but never around people I don’t know especially kids or folks older than me. Where has our civility gone? | ||

This uncivil element is the image so many whites conjure up when black people come to mind. That's why they don't want blacks swimming with their kids. My daughter enrolled her 5 year old grandson in the local summer day camp and the majority of the little boys were so unruly, belligerent and profane that she and a few other concerned parents took their kids out of the program because their youngsters were being influenced by the "ghetto" actin ones. These wild kids are the outgrowth of a sub-culture that suffers from parental neglect and they grown up to be crude adults. | ||

Actually YOU were eavesdropping. You owe THEM an apology. Additionally you wuz buyin' BBQ Turkey necks. They were probably under the influence of drugs and alchohol" Did I mention the bbq is sold on the parking lot of a church "The church is holy, not the parking lot. Then again, if it is one of these usual hypocritical Negro Churches with a shiny haired shyster--you get the drift. Maybe it is that kind of church where you say MF" but these were not teenagers "Where you think the teenagers learned it from"? Where has our civility gone "Down the drain with all our other supposed virtues. Most people found out it didn't get them nowhere to be civil. Plus that, you act like you have been on the Moon for the last 8 years. What have you seen that deserves respect?" | ||

Seems like he thinks he's the only one with the authority to talk about black folks, pathetically relying on the ol standby argument that white folks do it too; as if they are somebody to emulate. I hope that when ol crissie reads my other diatribe about black folks, he'll need to pop a blood pressure pill. (Maybe he can channel his rage by going black to carping about how stupid black people are to forgive Michael Jackson.) Black folks shouldn't have to limit themselves to the public places they patronize. If niggas can cuss and carry on at these BBQ establishments, then us civil upstanding citizens can complain about it! Go gnaw on bone, you woebegotten ol mutt. Ahh Chris. Sprewing your usual ray of commentary. Thank you for sharing [mumbling: I'm surprised someone hasn't snatched his cane and beaten him over the head with it]. Cynique - considering how some of these young mothers cuss at their small children like dogs on the street, it's just going to get worse. What can we expect of these children? What can we do? I learned a long time ago that it may not be wise to confront the mother. If given the chance I give the kid a smile and if possible a few friendly words but you've gotta be careful speaking to other peoples kids. [Shut Up Chris!] | ||

Black folks shouldn't have to limit themselves to the public places they patronize. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When you go to a Chinese restaurant, do you start yelling at the waiters, talking to each other (about what a big dope you are)in Chinese to speak English? You are the one always trying to be Upscale. Stay away from places REAL Negroes patronize. Sometimes even MY nerves can't take it and I retreat. When I go back to Ohio I see it all the time. The loud vulgarity (regardless of who is in ear shot), clownish appearance and thuggish behavior of today, is alien to the life I had as a youth. I'm not suggesting there were no knuckleheads back then because that is not true. But not on a collective massive scale like it is now. Sadly, American Negroes can only blame themselves for the emergence of crude buffoon coon culture. All of this is fall out from the mushroom cloud of the baby mama drama culture and all its documented pathological failures. For many, the mothers on average, are probably only 15 to 16 years older than their children and there are no positive male figures for discipline and positive role modeling for the male children. What can you expect in the long run when you have uneducated children raising children? You want to see real lack of civility, spend some time on a major college campus. Perhaps some Black folks are (once again) the canary in the mines, but this rudeness, lack of civility, and me-firstness is a common complaint. Take a look at the TV entertainment targeted to the young (of all races) to get a clue about what kinds of behavior they are immersed in. So if this is a function of not just "ghetto mentality" but middle and upper class White kids as well, what is to blame? Or perhaps different roots are nurturing different weeds?... | ||

White people don't have to answer for how bad their Gen Xers act. They are the majority in control. Whatever damage inflicted by their kids they deserve. Black people are a relatively powerless minority who always have to be judged by the worst among us. So we bytch about it. | ||

I don't think anybody "chooses" to be misjudged. After all this time it is apparent that you can't change the emotions of people who unfairly categorize you. How do we prevent blatantly racist white people or worst, yet, the insidiously benignly prejudiced ones from believing blacks are really undesireable or inferior? Unfortunately the way to assuage this situation is to resort to the old standby of saying the same things about them. Except this doesn't change things. Sooooo, we b i t c h. There are probably white liberal Democrats who secretly think Obama is a bag of wind who has no idea what he's doing, - just like all black men. |
