Was the Michael Jackson memorial one of the best productions in a long long time?! I was watching it with my lady and saw her start to cry. I asked her if she was crying and she turned her head to wipe away her tears. I was glad she did because it gave me a chance to dab mine. I didn't want her to see me cry. Just as Michael sang songs with conviction, so did the individuals that spoke at the event. They reached down and spoke from their hearts. I loved Dr. King's daughter's speech. I loved her brother's speech as well. I even stood up and applauded Al Sharpton. Brooke Shields gave us a glimpse of a man few really know. The black congress woman brought it home. Did Usher sing that song or what?! All the music was just what the doctor ordered. If our new talent could sing a song like that, we'd all be the better. Smokey Robinson had to give it up didn't he. Michael made Smokey's song his song. I missed parts of the first hour, I wonder if it could have made this experience any better? My heart goes out to his daughter. I couldn't hold back my tears after watching her speak. |

I thought one of the most touching scenes occurred in the beginning when Michael's casket was ushered in by his brothers acting as pall bearers, each wearing one sequined glove, moving along to the strains of the old negro hym "Soon and very soon, we're goin to see the King, halleluja, halleluja", which was sung by the gospel choir. John Mayer's guitar rendition of "Human Nature" was also a nice change of pace. Michael was given a grand send-off. In retrospect, he was worthy of it. Like Rev Al so succintly noted, the impact of Michael's extraordinary life is about the message, not the mess. Michael Jackson stepped out of the parade. But he left his music behind for us to march to. |

Although I've never been a fan of Rev. Al Sharpton, I think his speech was the best of the day. I believe the person who was going to produce Michaels tour was behind this production? Yes, I agree, John Mayer fit right where he was suppose to be. I didn't see the opening. |

I thought it was the most morbidly barbaric exhibitions of rank opportunism and hipocrisy I ever saw. But it will be nothing next to what is coming in the next few weeks and months and years. The tell all books. The suicides. The murders. The bizarre child molestations. The self mutilations and plastic surgery. Gawd! |

You're so out of step, chrishayden. The cliched things you spout when you stumble into the world of pop culture never indicate any sign of critical thinking. What was barbaric about the memorial service for Michael Jackson? It was low-keyed and orderly. His casket was closed, the grief was contained, there were no histrionics except for maybe the spontaneous whimpering of Jackson's young daughter. The consensus of opinion from those who count agree that, rather than being a tasteless spectacle, these services were dignified. Who were the opportunists there? The already-famous people who eulogized Michael? People who were undoubtedly asked to appear? People representing a cross-section of the black and entertainment community coming forth to pay their respects and to share snippets of their memories of a fallen star. That's the agenda of a memorial service, dummy. That's the way they all proceed. Nobody forced you to watch the proceedings, chrishayden. Why did you bother to? So you could come on this board and nit pik and show everybody how chrishayden is not fooled or affected by all of this; he's too smart for that. Not! Nobody is deluded about Michael Jackson's shortcomings, but because he commanded compassion more than contempt and because his music had been such an integral part of the American culture and because as an entertainer he brought joy to the world, civilized people have chosen to give credit where credit is due and to celebrate what was a life of giving. Nobody forced the media to pay homage to Michael Jackson the way it did. But Michael Jackson's death was NEWS, and the media realized that he was a phenomenon whose impact was historical in proportions. It had a duty to report and record this for posterity. Michael Jackson was an international figure and people everywhere wanted to see and hear about his life and death. So be it. He earned his notoriety - and his adulation. Once again, chrishayden, your ranting subjects us to the cacophony best described as "the sound and fury of an idiot saying nothing". |

I thought I wouldn't breakdown, but when they rolled his casket into the Center, singing, "Soon and very soon", that was it! I was a complete damn sobbing mess; I couldn't stop the entire Memorial either. Each speaker/entertainer tribute was moving (with maybe the exception of Brooke - she's so "blah", to me). Stevie Wonder, as well as Paris, really stirred my soul....Stevie sharing he hoped to not live to "see" this day, and Paris's gut-wrenching cry of love for her Daddy, phuckin' broke my heart!!!! I'll miss MJ! |
