In reflecting on Michael Jackson, the impression currently lingering in my mind is how he came across in his last press conference where he appeared in full regalia, amidst the appropriate hype, there to herald his upcoming tour.

Pulsating before the camera, humbly thanking his cheering fans from the bottom of his heart was a different Michael; gone was the child-like enthusiam and breathless anticipation of returning to the lime light. In its place was the embodiment of the theme chosen for the upcoming tour. Michael cloaked his swan song in the words "This Is It" and his demeanor suggested that. It was like he'd finally put himself in perspective and was no longer staving off middle age, focused instead on that last hurrah which, once completed, would allow him to rest on his laurels. Peter Pan had grown up, and in his place was a world weary Hamlet ready "to be, - or not to be".

This impression was further sustained while watching the video of his final rehearsals. Eskewing the frenetic crotch-grabbing and moon-walking and disjointed strutting, was a cool, hip Michael with a different vibe, expertly executing the moves of a dancer who had grown old gracefully. I liked what I saw.

How fortunate that the final images of the king of pop giving a good accounting of himself have been captured on tape. And frozen in time. Not surprising that poetry comes to mind in summarizing my final thoughts about this fallen star, because the spectacle of Michael Jackson was an ode to irony

"My thread is cut and yet it is not spun,
And now I live, and now my life is done."

Well, it had to happen. A congressman from NY has posted a rant on YouTube protesting all the adulation being heaped on a "perverted pedophile" like Michael Jackson!

Of course this white Republican conveniently overlooks the fact that MJ was found not guilty of the charges brought against him, and prefers not to concede that few famous people have exemplary private lives. Or that this MJ phenomenon is about a cultural aspect of society, not the neurosis of an individual.

And a miffed Sarah Palin probably made her announcement about stepping down as governor so as to draw attention away from the extraordinary outpouring of appreciation for MJ.

Palin is not above hoping that the shock of her resignation would dim MJ's glow the way her nomination for VP took the wind out of the sails of the newly-nominated Barak Obama.

(If he had denied this behavior I would be defending him.

How quickly Negroes forget how the pervert admitted OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH that he slept with little boys and he saw nothing wrong with it.

If you think its okay for him, let me come over your house and take your granddaughters to the guest room with me..

I won't hurt them..

By the way, that's what ALL the pedophiles say and think. Look it up. They aren't hurting them

He was sick. If he hadn't been Michael Jackson he would be sitting in jail right now.

I'm beginning to believe in divine retribution about now. He had gone on about his business and faded out.

But then he decided to come back. And God pulled the rug out from under him and all those pigs who stood to make big dough out of a Jacko comeback.

Shame on you, Black America for condoning Baby Raping.

I know I didn't hear Chris say what God did?

Hey Chris, do you listen to Etta James ..."they call it stumbling Monday, Tuesday's oh so bad ...The Eagle flys on friday, Saturday I go out and play, Sunday I go to church and I kneel down and pray"

As I've repeatedly said, chrishayden was not so judgmental when it came to wife-murdering. For years he continued to insist on OJ Simpson's innocence.

There are, after all, young boys who were in Jackson's inner circle who reported no attempts at molestation by him. e.g. Macauley Caulkin and Emmanuel Lewis. The notion that MJ molestations took the form of raping has never been leaked or proven.

Many observers have characterized Jackson as actually being asexual, so his fixation on young boys many never have gotten past the fondling stage.

Anybody who was so obviously adored by his children, could not be all bad. There are degrees of pedophilia and there are men who rape young boys who are not pedophiles but just opportunists. Each individual should be evaluated separately. But, naturally, chrishayden is overthe top in his presumptions.
