For Nominal Reference: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/4/transformers-jivetalking-_n_220005.html http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090625/ap_en_mo/us_film_transformers_jar_jar_again Here we go again. With the exception of journalism, television news professionals, politicians and the President of the United States, Hollywood and the mainstream media are still hell-bent on portraying so-called black American men as brown-skin in complexion, of heavily “Negroid” phenotype, Ebonic-speaking, and having not one iota of common sense. Many people know that there is a very strong (and not so subtle) bias against black men (and particularly light-skin/lighter-complexioned black men who have minimal or no “Negroid” phenotype) in the media and sports domains, plus the movie production, TV commercial, TV interview spaces, and the like. More than 95% of the time, “black men” who are cast are frequently ill-spoken (e.g., poor diction, grammar, etc.), dark(er) in skin complexion, frankly quite unattractive (regardless of the standard being used), and basically ill-prepared for (that) fifteen minutes of fame. With more industry zest than ever, black men are increasingly cast in a negative light, leaving little recourse for those who espouse the true diversity of the black male domain today. Even though virtually all types (and phenotypes) of black women are now cast across the entire entertainment spectrum, even those who speak proper English (and are not from the shuck and jive crowd) are themselves still slighted when the only overweight folks on the screen are fat, black and ignorant - not well-spoken, and more. Though this subject may still be a tired ‘retread’, the mainstream media juggernaut keeps rolling forward on the same set of wheels? That said; I guess I'm guilty of that too. |

Nels, I saw the Transformers yesterday. Overall it was a really shallow movie with a lot of explosions. I honestly did not think enough of the movie to be offended. The twin robots (purportedly to be a take off on Black negative stereotypes were just plain silly to me. This was not exactly a movie aimed at adults. Folks who were offended should choose their movies more wisely. quote: More than 95% of the time, “black men” who are cast are frequently ill-spoken (e.g., poor diction, grammar, etc.), dark(er) in skin complexion, frankly quite unattractive (regardless of the standard being used), and basically ill-prepared for (that) fifteen minutes of fame.
95%?! Come on, this is silly on it face. Are you serious? |

And if it IS true, you ain't going to do anything about it. A while back I excoriated some of the females on this list about moaning about this "colorism" thang. Now you? No wonder the sistahs are turning to white, latino or asian men. |

Who are you to tell folks what they can or cannot complain about, Chrishayden? If a person wants to call attention to what he perceives as a slight, that's his prerogative. Just because you don't agree with or approve of what Nels says doesn't invalidate it. You have always had a problem with people voicing things which make you uncomfortable. You obviously feel some problems are better left unsaid because then they don't have to be dealt with. Young folks, this is why you should disregard ol codgers like chrishayden. |

If you weren't no doubt suffering from the heat, you would notice that I have not stopped him from posting his complaints. I have merely excercised my GOD GIVEN, CONSTITUIONAL RIGHTS to comment on them. Perhaps I was a little rough on Nels. It's because, as you should know, I employ the General Patton method in dealing with the obviously shell shocked-- A little kick in the pants now and then does Nels good. I guess though, since YOU were that poor sap who Patton pimpslapped in Sicily, you might resent my methods. The ends justify the means in this case. |

Your similes suck and your delusions become evident in the implication that you are the only one entitled to exercise their god given constitutional rights to comment on subjects. And, like Patton, your are an unstable ego-maniac. |

Chris-- "Nels, that was all bullshit. You are a sick man." Boo! I'm scared! Dribble...dribble...dribble. I knew when I made that post, that it was going to get a hot reception from someone. I'm simply commenting on something that I think has merit. Whether or not you agree with it or not is not my problem. Just because you can't see the world from my perspective doesn't make me sick, but you yourself might want to consider using Prozac instead of Tylenol. Troy-- "95%?! Come on, this is silly on it face. Are you serious?" Dead serious, any way you cut it. |

Chris-- "A while back I excoriated some of the females on this list about moaning about this "colorism" thang. Now you?" Ain't my problem. Don't get hung up on colorism. The empirical observations, evidence, etc. speak for themselves. No wonder why the mainstream media never really covers colorism, sans ABC Television's 20/20's John Stossel. Just think about all of the irrational hotheads like you that would have to be dealt with. It's like watching a primetime special on the ODR (One Drop Rule). There's not a mainstream TV station on the planet that will touch it (i.e., that subject) because if they did, that would threaten historical white domination (,logic and reasoning) and have everyone asking questions about who's really what, and we know what that would lead to. And believe it or not, the little chocolate ones out there in the choir would probably be the ones raising the most hell about why the entire subject was even brought up in the first place. Oddly enough, when my sister (who's half white; part creole, part American indian, and part black American) hears the word colorism, she cringes. However, when she reflects back on the fact that her two failed marraiges were to dumb ignorant black Nigga's who couldn't even recite the Pledge of Allegiance, she has only herself to blame. That said, she's taken it upon herself to avoid the so-called smooth talkin' (so to speak) and obviously 'black' American men, drink a glass of 'common sense', and deny those MF's that piece of high-yellow a$$ that they can't even (see) behind the glass at the meat counter, if you get my drift. Until the next retort... |
