I haven’t read a newspaper on a regular basis for years. The L.A. Times had gotten so unwieldy I just didn’t have time for it so I got out of the habit. Now they’ve cut back so much doesn’t seem like much is there. I spend enough time on the computer for work and keeping up with the various message boards and blogs that I don’t spend much time searching for the news. But I do end up following links for news and then I add that link to my favorites till that list gets so long it’s useless . . . On TV I watch the local news in the a.m. for whether or not I’ll need a sweater. Other than that it’s who got shot, stabbed, run over, beaten, etc. and what idiotic thing some idiotic ‘celebrity’ or politician has done/said. Oh yeah, this week I saw a lot of our president shaking hands with the president of another country [oh the horror!]. The national network news is a misnomer - period. I find myself bouncing around the various public broadcast channels for world news stations but I forget where and when to watch. It’s all pretty much hit and miss. |

Hi Crystal! So good to see you around, sis. Love to you. I get my news on the internet, I haven't read a newspaper in YEARS. If something really "big" happen, I will go to YOUTUBE and watch some video footage about it. Almost never do I watch "t.v." unless it's for research purposes. . |

Hey Kola Woman! Good to see you around too. I saw where you say the boys are doing well - good job Mom! YOUTUBE - duh. There's just so much going on over there that I don't feel like finding my way around. Sigh. This all-electronic 21st Century stuff is getting on my nerves. |

Cup of coffees in hand, I religiously read my newspaper which is delivered at my door step, every morning. When I'm done with perusing what's going on locally and nationally and world wide, I focus on the OpEd and Entertainment pages; next the Bridge column also checking out some of my favorite comic strips, then the sports updates, finally ending up with the crossword puzzles. To me, nothing can replace what I consider one of life's little pleasures. If something happens to prevent the delivery of my newspaper, I have withdrawal symptoms. Guess I'm just an old dinosaur |

I am with Cynique, there's nothing like the relaxed spirit the newspaper gives me. I do not have one delivered to my door but I frequently buy one. There's just something about a newspaper that I can't let go. Heck, I even read it twice, I know Cynique feels me on that. I'll turn that baby inside and out. And yes, I also read the page to see who has left this world. You can't get that on your local Tv news. I guess I am just an old dinosaur as well. Oh no! I am agreeing with Cynique. |

I get news from every where, be it TV, Cable, print and/or Internet. Because I think all modes of news media provide different conveniences. I think the visual media offer more of an opportunity to more casually follow what's going on. It allows you a chance to SEE the body language of those who make and report the news (which can very often SAY what does NOT necessary come from their mouths). Print media usually provides more depth and more convenience of access and use (e.g., while drinking coffee or tea) and of moving from different topics (e.g., all it takes is on second to flip from the classifieds to the sports section. And the Internet allows even greater depth and more immediate, timely news. |

Good points ABM, "Print media usually provides more depth and more convenience of access and use (e.g., while drinking coffee or tea) and of moving from different topics (e.g., all it takes is on second to flip from the classifieds to the sports section" Internet news works my brain a little to much. I want to take it all in and it can be a strain. I often find myself reading mess that I really could care less about. The "news" is generally bad news. Yeah, that should rename all the news show to "The Bad News Shows". Yep, something like the weekend of bad news or the round table of bad news. |

Carey, The Internet can often lead to information overload and/or information fatigue. Plus, the veracity of a lot of can be more questionable, especially given how quickly and easily things can be present sans sufficient verification and editing. I guess the news paradigm is quite cynical, by nature. However, I guess it is only reflecting back to us what we (even though we may not admit such) WANT. |

The newspaper is my morning ritual. When afternoon arrives, I shift into the visual mode of watching the latest happenings. I don't rely on the internet too much for news but I do depend on it for information about subjects I want to know more about. The only problem with all of this convenience is that in bringing the world to myself, I tend to not be motivated to go out and about and become a part of it. But, then, I've been there, done that... |

Like Cynique. I have a paper delivered to my home 6 days a week. Since I've been working from home, I have the luxury of relaxing and reading the newspaper every day. Sometimes it is on my front stoop, or at my kitchen counter, half the time I read the paper in a local cafe. I subscribe to the WSJ and mostly focus on technology, personal and editorial sections. I'll scan the business and international sections. I'll also buy the Amsterdam News (a local Black owned weekly) I don't watch the local network news; too much "non-news" and it takes to long to consume with the commercials and the lead up hype to stories of zero value. I get a lot of news online usually it is sent to me through alerts, emails from friends, or I stumble across a news story here. I listen to NPR when I listen to the radio. I try to catch the Black talk shows. I also listen to the right wing talk shows (I know this is not "news" source but I find the anger in folks like Mike Savage hilarious). ______________ I recall some guy saying, during a conference, many years ago, "...unless you are getting your news from 9 different sources you are being lied to." The older I get and more personally familiar I'm with "news worthy" events the more I know this to be true. News outlets simply get things wrong. Some of it is deliberate, but most of it is just bias, or sloppiness. Admittedly some of the inaccuracies are of little consequence, but other inaccuracies or lies are major problems. |

I consult a mix of national magazines, local magazines, local newspapers (we got FIVE black weekly newspapers here in St. Louis) Newspapers from other cities, tv, radio and consultation with peers and knowlegeable people. It is a constant process, delving into all corners and trying to form a picture All the while you know that the true story often has yet to emerge... |
