On the occasion of my great-grandson's birthday party a clown was invited to entertain the little ones.

With the festivities well underway, the door bell soon rang, heralding the much-anticipated arrival of the clown who, amid a cascade of balloons, exploded on the scene, resplendant in a big red nose, wild wig, a polka dot costume and goofy shoes. Presented to the delighted children, the exuberant clown went into her act as the grown-ups retired to another room to socialize and gossip and partake of a few drinks.

Before long, I noticed the clown casting wistful glances in our direction, while the growing disinterest between her and the kids became mutual.

As the party gradually escalated to a free for all, the next thing I knew the clown was partying hardy with the adults, a drink in hand.

By the time the celebration wound down, the clown reluctantly joined the exodus, a tad tipsy, slightly wilted, but totally convinced that black people truly know how to have a good time and - pleased as punch with her networking. Guess the economy is affecting the clown industry, too.

LOL! Yeah, I guess no industry has been spared. Though I hear that the economic downturn has saved the cobbling industry as people are getting shoes repaired again.

If you think the clown incident crossed my eyes, check this one out.
My son has 2 good buddies name "Ron." One is black and the other isn't, which is why behind his back, we took to referring to him as "white boy Ron".

Recently he called my son's home looking for him, and when my grandson replied to his dad's inquiry as to who it was, he yelled, "it's white boy Ron." Well, when white boy Ron overheard this, he was quite miffed. He wondered how my son would react if he was called "black boy Keith."

We all found this amusing. I advised white boy Ron that this was "a black thing" and we didn't mean no harm. He then wanted to know if I was laughing at him or with him. I told him I didn't know.

Slow day, folks...

That's funny! Ol'white boy Ron ...yep, that's a black thang. No harm intended, he's just white boy Ron. Don't we do that with our own? I know a few people that others know by their skin color. There's black Ralph and there's skinny Ralph. We even have a black Jesus. Blue black Carl is another one. Yellow Janice and black Janice is known by their color as well. I am sure we all have friends with colors in front of their names.

Do we need to talk about other tags we put on our friends. We have a women called big face. There's nasty Betty and dressin' Barb. Everybody knows dressin' Barb.
