Troy's Note: Kevin Powell also gets quite a bit of fan/hate mail. It appears Kevin recently appeared on the O'Reilly Factor. I did not see the broadcast but evidently it evoked some strong emotions in some viewers. Kevin Powell http://aalbc.com/authors/kevin.htm has posted on this board in the past Email 1 I saw Mr. Powell on the Oreilly Factor. Among other statements, he claimed to have been spending '40 hour weeks' talking to college grads in Dallas and other major cities. He also claimed to be speaking for jobless young men of all races. I believe this to be total crap. It does not take a genius to figure out the only men he speaks of are black. What a shame. His comments about the Bush administration were also very transparent. And to support 'artists' like M & M is ironic. Artists like him are the greatest cancer on our young people today. They affect the young lives of our youth, both black and white. I should know. I have made a career out of teaching under priviledged children. I have seen the destructive nature of hip-hop first hand. Comparing wrap today to jazz of old is an insult. M & M and his like are smut peddlers. Mr. Powell knows this. Mr. Powell, you do not responsibly represent the youth of our nation of any color. You are an angry man with hidden racial issues of your own. That's the plain truth. Email 2 Saw you on O'Reilly Factor. You are the first person I've ever seen that came off as a more POMPUS, SELF-IMPORTANT ASS than he did. Congrats, fool! Email 3 Mr. Powell: I saw you on the O'Reilly Factor this evening (10/29/04)and thought you did very well. I think you are absolutely correct in saying that you have been in contact with the young people in this country, and know how they feel. May I tell you how I feel sir, and I am a man 65 years of age. I have seen some of the great things this country has to offer, and I served in the U.S. Navy when it really was the Navy. I am so proud of what this great nation has done in the past, but am slowly losing faith in about everything that goes on now. Yes we have rid the world of a very bad person in the name of Sadem Hussein (sp) but now there are hundreds more taking his place. We are now taking war to other parts of the world in the name of pushing democracy onto those that don't seem to want it. This is not a democracy anyway, this nation is a republic and always has been. Gas prices are so high that the young people in this nation have to make it a very important issue when they get involved in any kind of endeavor. Gas prices drive everything else up, and during the Bush tenure they have risen drastically. I am not a Kerry fan either so when I go to vote I will probably write my own name in, if I can. Bottom line is, I believe in what you are saying, and you handled yourself very well against the O'Reilly tyrant. The man literally digusts me, and had I not seen you on the program I would have gone on channel surfing. I am a white male who has joined the Geritol club, and I am a man who served his country honorably. I am a veteran of the deliberate attack on the USS Liberty by the IDF on June 8, 1967 and I have had my own government turn their back on me when I tried to tell them the truth about what happened on that horror filled day. The news media, the congress, and most public servants are out of contact with the public, and they have become servants to money. That means we are indeed in deep trouble. I love this great nation for what it was, and not for what it has become. Something is very, very, wrong, and the young people in this great country know it. Just imagine the mail that I get Troy. Or imagine the incident where I had to "water hose" a group of white women picketing in front of my house because of a poem in "Long Train" that they claimed was a "curse" against them and their children. I don't share my hate mail.....because it's the overwhelming majority of mail that I get and goes far beyond race. I LIKE KEVIN POWELL!! I think he's a really positive role model--especially since he proves that wayward men can MORPH into heroes. He's wonderful. |
