Dear Friend:

We are proud to announce that Memphis Black Writers Conference Founder/ President, Lawrence Wayne, has been selected to receive a prestigious award at the Younity Reviewers Guild Award ceremony during the Harlem Book Fair in New York July 20-25, 2004.

Lawrence will be honored with the "Black Living Legendary Icon of Excellence and Hero' award for his work with literacy and children. In addition a special " Lawrence Wayne Day" will be declared by internationally known President & Founder of Disilgold, Inc., Heather Covington.

Mr. Wayne has asked that on his special day a new tradition be started to help celebrate this auspicious occasion. Lawrence would like as many adults as possible to hug as many children 18 years and under on that day and say "I love you" will be an annual tradition starting in 2004 to be celebrated each 25th of July.

Charisse Jones and I are honored that our book, Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America, is a winner of the 2004 American Book Awards (to be awarded at a ceremony in Oakland, CA on Sept. 5th).
