WarpLand Literary Journal-Call for Submissions The Theme of the 14th Annual Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Conference,hosted by Chicago State University,is "Our Magnitude and Bond". It suggests the impact, influence, and significance of literature as a record of life within the African Diaspora. These records of history include the oral traditions of our ancestors and journal memoir writings. We invite you to send poetry, short stories, or critical essays for possible publication in the 2004 edition of WarpLand: A Journal of Black Literature and Ideas. Topics should focus on the conference theme or a notable writer of African or AFrican-American descent, whose work exemplifies the theme. Please adhere to the following submission guidelines. 1. All manuscripts must be typed. For multiple page manuscripts the title of the work and page number must appear on each page. 2. All manuscripts must be submitted in triplicate and must not bear the author's name or any identifying information about the author. 3. A copy of your submission on either a WordPerfect or Microsoft Word file on a PC formatted disk must be included. 4. A cover letter must be included listing the titles of the submitted works and the author's contact information. 5. All submitted material must include either an e-mail address or SASE. Submissions without this information will not be considered. 6. Artwork should be submitted as prints or slides, along with a copy on disk in jpeg or gif format. Artwork does not need to be submitted in triplicate. 7. September 15 is the deadline for consideration. No phone calls will be accepted regarding submission status. The library staff will assess which titles will be designated for the shelves. The rest will be distributed to destitute families or sold for library fundraising.
