This is my first time buying Oprah's magazine, and I think I've got a pretty good issue. If they're all this good, I may get a subscription.

Anyways, this month, there's an article by Ta-Nehisi Coates about being an unwed father. I'm just glad that he seems to understand somewhat the attitude black women seem to have against black men.

He talks about how his girlfriend and her mother both grew up without a father, and how they didn't trust him after the pregnancy, but instead got an "us against the world" attitude. He said that his girlfriend thought his unwillingness to wed was a "prequel to an escape".

I just wish more people would see it as he has, that the black woman doesn't have an "attitude", but that she's hardening herself against being heartbroken when a lover leaves, as the black woman (through often having her own father do the same)is conditioned to believe that men leave, and wants to be strong when he does.

Anyway, interesting read.
