Every society has a pecking order based on something - race, religion, socio-economic factors, you name it. In America it's about race -- the saying use to go, "When is a black man a nigger? When he leaves the boardroom!" Blacks confused tolerance with acceptance and desperately live under the illusion of eventual inclusion. Dr. King had a dream. What we have in America is a nightmare about race and blacks are contributing to it. |

I don't know that we have a nighmare about race or do I think blacks are deluded about tolerance being synomous with acceptance. I think most Blacks know how we stand in this country and individuals who are not preoccupied with this are successfully finding a niche for themselves in the scheme of things. Others saddle themsevles with the baggage that immoblizes them. Is this a nightmare? Well, compared to what? Certainly not Ethiopia or the Sudan. |

There IS no acceptance in the US. Only tolerance. We're being "put up with", not accepted. |

Black people need to get rid of that "victim" mentality.
We need to learn how to control nature and start ruling a piece of this world.
The difference between us and other people is they WANT to rule.
Whites, Arabs, Chinese...they are forever in search of somebody to conquere and some land to rule.
They plot and plan on it.
All so many of us want to do is just dance and party all night until we wear ourselves out.
That's "fun" to us.
So while we're partying...other's are planning...with US in mind!
America is a prime example of how our mentality is destroying us.
There is no reason why AfroAmericans....who actually make up about 25% of the population.....are taking a back seat to Mexican and Asian immigrants who come to this country.
We're too "nice" to put our foot down and establish our own pecking-order with them UNDER us, so we accept our place as second-hand citizens.

I'm glad you put the word nice in quotations. Being too nice is the least of AA's problems. I do, however, agree with what you initially implied. Materialism poses just as great a threat to black folks in this country as racism does. Black focus too much on getting what they want, instead of what they need. They have a false set of values. |

We're nice and passive when it comes to others, just not to ourselves.
We are in the major grip of materialism and mis-management of our finances because we were stripped of our original lineage and never taught how to accumulate wealth.
Most AfroAmericans just live for the moment to have fun.
They don't plan on living a long life or passing down wealth.
