I was in the local Barnes and Nobles the other day and I said to myself "I think I'll go ahead and throw a couple of bucks at a sci fi book" I was browsing through row after row of sci fi books and got to the Haydens. Three different authors named Hayden. All three ladies,no Chris.Looks like your publicist is asleep at the wheel.I was actually going to buy a book of yours, but sadly, none were available.Oh well.I don't see how you expect to sell books that aren't in the book stores. You might want to talk to somebody about that. |

Rustang, The bookstores won't carry his books unless people like you ask the CASH REGISTER to order them. If you had kindly asked the cash register to order his book---then they would have, and he'd be on the inventory as "a seller" for that store and they'd order more copies. Door of Kush, is a small Black-Owned and Operated publisher (Cornel Chesney started it expressly to publish Kola Boof after my book "Long Train" was firebombed in Rabat...and it is ran by Robert Wright and Nafisa Goma). Chris, as well as I and Diane Dorce are well aware that it's up to us and our fans to get our books into the stores. I am moving to a major house and after my autobiography will no longer be signed with Door of Kush....but my title "Flesh and the Devil" has sold 5,000 copies in hardback on this super-tiny imprint and is not carried by any of the major book chains. Another problem for Chris....is that Door of Kush was started for Kola Boof, and therefore, almost all their publicity and advertising went into making Kola Boof. And it's worked. I am leaving for a bigger house---but the bigger I get, Door of Kush will now have my Back Catalog to make money off. With me leaving the company..t.his leaves more time to publicize and focus on DOK's upcoming new authors. But as I've advised both Chris and Diane---if I were them, I would not hold my breath waiting on DOK, I would publicize myself and push my own work. That's what I did. I telephoned book stores, wrote letters to public libraries (in all--1500 copies of my book were purchased by public libraries). And I asked people like you to request my book at BORDERS and BARNES AND NOBLE. The good thing about DOK's books is the superior quality of the material they use---their books are quite beautiful and compelling to look at---so when the authors send copies of them to Agents and publishers, they do get professional attention quicker. |
