Everyone knows that this society is comprised of several stacked levels of social classes. The higher you go in the social ladder, the chances are that there are more opportunities guarrantied to the members. And the higher you go in the ladder, the more limited your connections are to other people.
Anyway, what I've picked up from analyzing this ladder is that within each social level, there is a racial ladder. What I mean is that within a single social class, there are certain members that are situated to the bottom while others are situated to the top based on their race or ethnicity. Here's my LISTING from top to bottom , who stands where in the socio-racial hierarchy:
---------------------------------
UPPER CLASS:

*White royalty

*Asian Royalty

*African Royalty

UPPER-MIDDLE :

*White UMC

*Asian UMC

*Black UMC

LOWER-MIDDLE:

*White LMC

*Asian LMC

*Black LMC

WORKING CLASS:

*White WC

*Asian WC (they exist:-))

*Black WC
----------------------------------
Notice who's always at the bottom?

My point: When one marries, who do you think is percieved to be more desirable in the public eye? white and middle-class, or BLACK and Middle class? why do asians prefer marrying whites over blacks despite the egual social status? Who had it worse during the depression? whites or blacks?
Why does a White male doctor earn more than a Black female doctor?

In america, even Socio-economic class has been racialized.

This a new theory??? It's common knowledge that that class does not neutralize racism. And since when did blacks and Asians have equal social status??? Even your chart disputes this. As far as who suffered most during the Depression, this era during the 1930s didn't impact that much on the black masses because times were always hard for them. But the Depression took its toll on white people of all classes because they lost whatever they had whether it was a little or a lot.

yes. this is quite an old argument. In folks emotionalism, they forget slavery was racist, but it was fundamentally a state enforced free labor system. Race & Class....One should add gender...black women and women of color are usually at the very bottom! And sister Kola would also add color, so now we have race, color, class, and gender!Lets not forget religion! And, of course....nationality!

Why is every topic around here race? Our skin color is not the sum total of who we are people.

Enchanted,
As of this century, people are subconciously conditioned to attract to certain colors while repelling others, whether they are conciously aware of it or not. In other words, the remaining effects of White supremacism. It' not just "Black vs. white" anymore. All over the world, the blackest-skinned people are reviled while the lightest are whorshipped like Gods and those in the middle mutilate themselves to be like the light-skins,all thanks to western media and successful campaigns to demonize certain peoples and certain histories. Sadly many Dark-skins are still "in the dark" about this issue. So until dark-skins open their eyes and finally stand up against this colonial-based system and change it, then this will continue to be the topic of discussion for decades to come. So as for "who we are as people", Not everyone still sees that and will continue to treat others differently based on their color. Heck there are non-blacks who prefer light AA's over Dark or brown AA's. Why was the first Miss America the light skinned Vanessa Williams?because? The answers obvious in their skin. Colorblindness is a myth and a convenient excuse to not deal with an issue that makes life a perpetual holocaust for many in the world. That's the only part of MLK's speech that hasn't materialized into universal reality. If it did , Dalits and Roma wouldn't have the horrors they experience from upper castes and white europeans respectively. The Japanese would not be getting surgeries to widen their eyes and pinken their areolas. Bleaching creams and hair relaxers would sit next to the "Not dogs, No Negroes, No mexicans." sign in the Jim crow museum. But it is not so because the last aspect of rasism still exist: both fear and hatred for the blackest of black skin. If we all act like Reagan (and Bush Jr.)and turn a blind eye to an issue that still affects people far worse than one could possibly imagine.

Opps, the last sentence was supposed to say:

There will be no progress if we don't confront this issue and just act like Reagan (and Bush Jr.)and turn a blind eye to an issue that still affects people far worse than one could possibly imagine.

Enchanted:

Have you gone on the Irish sites and complained that all they talk about is Ireland? How about the Sci Fi sites? All they talk is Sci Fi--whazzup with them.

I could go on and on. Of course you haven't. What kind of person with the intelligence of a moron comes on an African American site and then complains when people post about race?

What is it about black people discussing race that gets people so out of whack?

I just want to know.

It's the repetition. The same arguments, the same rebuttals, the same name-calling, the same frustration. And seldom does anyone change anyone else's opinions. On and on it goes. The good thing is that we all have the option to only read the posts that interest us.

Lili,
I left the Working Poor out because that's the only socio-economic class in which race seems to have as major a signifigance as it does in the higher classes(unless you're a neo-nazi). Does it really matter what race you are when you barely afford your own clothes?

Yukio --

How rigid do you think the socio-racial hierarchy really is? Any reflections?
