I'm looking to upgrade my music collection with music from the worldwide community of African/Black people...i.e. continental or diasporal. Can anybody make good recommendations for albums and/or artists? I'm interested primarily in traditional, jazz (mainly instrumental), and blues...only positive vibes and messages please. Thanks! |

Blaklioness, if you go to Amazon.Com and order this CD...I guarantee it will become your new FAVORITE: Ethiopiques 4 by Mulatu Astatque Truly wonderful is ROKIA TRAORE of Mali
I don't know what the hell she's singing ....but if you want RICH very pure African background music that will enchant your whole house.....get her CD
A great sexy African daddy man who can sing your socks off....is BONGA. If he didn't love black women so much--the women of Europe would probably have made him a superstar by now. His CD is "KIANJE".
He's Algerian Arab Muslim JACKIE.....which Jackie are you?? My friend Jackie Joice? It's so confusing. If so....HEY GIRL!!! Where have you been and what you got cook'n?

Check out some of South African music. There are some great artists both male and female with lively vibes. Like the Matebele Queens (sp?), etc. |

I have heard a little bit of African music and it sounds very nice but when i hear those African drums playing i feel so STRONG and POWERFUL, i guess it's in my blood. I was wondering if any of you know of any sites where i could listen to African drums. Thanks. |

Blkamericanking: I don't know....check Amazon and type in the keyword(s) you're looking for. It may also lead you to other sites. |

Kola, Ok...now, I need the titles of some other African/Black films you've seen that are good/positive/powerful/outstanding. I'm ordering Sembene's stuff but want to have a good collection for my video library. Thanks. |

Hi Blaklioness, I don't really like any African director but Ousmane Sembene. You could get "Sankofa"--that's a great film by an Ethiopian filmmaker, Haile Gerima. I also love Raoul Peck from Haiti, but he's only made 2 films (Lumumba and Sometime in April).
