See Kola, I like songs for the music, the lyrics are just fluff. I don't care about the lyrics 'cause I don't "get" poetry.

It's been a while since I've heard the four freshmen mentioned. Please don't tell me that you also enjoy the Mills Bros. Well, here goes. Axis:Bold as Love-Jimi Hendrix More-Andy Williams St.James Infirmary-Bobby Blue Bland In Memory of Elizibeth Reed-The Allman Bros Telegraph Road-Dire Straits Have You Seen Her-The Chi-lites By the way, Kola, The First Cut is the Deepest is actually a Cat Stevens song. It's been re-done a number of times, but he's the one that wrote it. It was his first of many hits. You might also enjoy another one of his songs called Father and Son.Very nice. |

Thanx, Rustang. Yes, I like the Mills Brothers. I sort of collect study old music and especially silent films from the 1920's and women's melodramas of the 1930's.

I'm as surprised as anyone that you guys have heard of the 4 Freshman! I've been a big fan of theirs from their start waaay back in 1949. I think the original ones are all either dead or retired but the franchise goes on and I hear their songs all the time on the Cable Music channel as well as "Til Then" and "Paper Doll" by the Mills Brothers. And, Yukio, how did I forget to mention Prince's "Adore" I love "The Beautiful Ones" too. |

The entire CD of "The Carnival" by Wyclef Jean. And I HATE rap/hip-hop, so this one has to be phenomenal. I also love "Could you be loved" by Marley. (I once put the song on repeat and danced to it for over an hour.) And another two songs (I don't know the singers) are "Love Triangle" and "Shy Guy" by some reggae/dancehall singer. "If this world were mine" by Luther Vandross. |

Kola, if you like good songwriting, you may like Sheryl Crow, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Don Henley. They're really, really good songwriters, which, IMO, is why they're so successful. ('cause they can't sing for shit). |

Renata--- Curtis Mayfield is one of my favorite SONGWRITERS, because his songs are virtual poems. In fact---I've decided to name my next collection of poems after him: KOOLOX: Curtis Mayfield I also like Bacharach/Hal David's songwriting. SUBLIME. Earth, Wind and Fire wrote exceedingly poetic songs. Holland Dozier Holland from Motown. Stevie Wonder and Lauryn Hill, India Arie are MASTERFUL songwriters. CAROLE KING!! I love her songwriting. Donna Summer wrote some bad ass songs. I'm not too crazy about the people you mentioned. LOL

What's up everyone. I'm a newly registered member here, tho I must admit I have been quietly reading and enjoying so many wonderful posts on these boards for a couple of years now. I'm such a big fan of all kinds of music that when I read this post I felt compelled to add my batch of "me pleasers" to the pool of great music listed here. Here are a few of the albums I like to just press play and listen to from start to finish... ~ And then Nothing Turned itself inside Out - Yo La Tengo ~ Nevermind - Nirvana ~ Ok Computer - Radiohead ~ Antics - Interpol ~ Anything by The Doors ~ Anything by the experimental Miles Davis (think Bitches Brew) ~ Are you Experienced - Jimi Hendrix ~ System of a Down - System of a Down ~ Bloodflowers - The Cure ~ Everybody else is Doing it, So Why Can't We? - The Cranberries ~ Phantom of the Opera - Andrew Lloyd Webber ~ Throw Down Your Arms - Sinead O'Connor ~ To Bring you my love - PJ Harvey |
