My, my what a catalyst Cynique is turning out to be; what an enigma. Most of all, what a testament I am to the intrigue of the cyber world. But just who am I? Who is the much-maligned Cynique? Chris Hayden thinks I'm an anacroism who leads an idyllic life, lolling away in a sleepy little town reminscent of Mayberry, USA. Tonya thinks I'm a ghetto resident, warding off neighborhood thugs on my way to purchasing loose cigarettes from the local vendor. The ethiopian thinks I'm a frivolous high-yellow air-head, wearing tinted contacts and sporting a flowing hair weave. A-woman thinks I'm a decrepit old senile woman yearning for Troy to give me a shot at propping up this site. Roxie thinks I'm a school girl masquerading as an adult. Yukio thinks I could benefit from being enlightened and Kola Boof thinks I'm a hopeless cause. Slow Poke thinks I'm funny and Anunaki thinks I'm tough. Ahh but there is an upside to this. People like Sisgal, Crystal, LiLi, Yvette, Babygirl, Moonsigns, Linda, Soul Sista, Rustang, Rondall, Steve, and Nels - these cool folks couldn't care less about who I am, because they are about ideas more than people. And what about Thumper? Remember him?? I don't know what he thinks, but I'm sure he wishes that I would read more and argue less. heh-heh. So I repeat: Who am I? And I answer: I am, what I am, and I am what I am not. I'm the Sphinx reincarnated. Also somebody who just has a little time on my hands before me and grandbaby go grocery shopping. Bye-Bye! |

But the difference between me and you 2 is that I don't take myself seriously. And the people I like the most are those who also don't take me seriously. |

I thought you and Mini-Cynique were going grocery shopping. I can see it now, you and her walking into the local Win Dixie wearing matching straw hats, outsize sunglasses and mumuus!

We did go grocery shopping. And I live in the midwest, bunky, not down south. Ain't no Win Dixies and around here and jeans and a leather jacket are my attire of choice. So as usual, you're a day late and a dollar short. Now go back to square one. |

That's Winn-Dixie. Cynique says:I am what I am.That reminds me of a joke that a friend of mine,a white dude, told me a while back.A zebra died and was standing at the pearly gates,about to enter heaven and he says to St. Peter "All of my life I wondered about something and never did figure it out.Do you mind if I ask you a question?" and St. Peter says "No problem.Fire away." The zebra asks "Am I black with white stripes or white with black stripes?" Before closing the book on this subject, to any of you who, like Chrishayden, think I was ego-trippin by subjecting you to my monologue, I would respond that nobody on this board gets attacked more than I. And with this being the case, I feel like I've earned the right to poke fun at myself. So in regard to my little "peek into the fun house mirror", in the words of the old cliche: those who care, don't count; and those who count, don't care. |

In this world we need folks who will comfort the uncomfortable, and cause the too comfortable a little discomfort--at least from time to time. It's funny that both Kola and Cynique do the latter, but often from opposite ends of the rope.
It's all good. We're all who we are, and if we're fortunate, we get to live long enough to see the humor in that. Guess we're all like Popeye (or Rustang's color-struck zebra LOL). Now, all of a sudden I have a taste for yams... |
