We need ideas on how to improve the Discussion Board.
Improvement must be a continous process.

Leadership is difficult without vision, but vision does not guarantee quality of leadership.
Improvement will be difficult without a willingness to allow definition of purpose.
Without purpose cultures tend toward weakness.
If the Discussion Board is a culture, what is the generally understood purpose? Is this purpose adequate? Is excellence an aspect of that purpose? |

West Africa, you kinda remind me of Yukio, only he was a little less pedantic. Keep in mind that this is a forum, not a classroom. And don't be surprised if you don't get a lot of response to your "in-your-face" approach. You might also keep in mind that you are dealing with a bunch of know-it-alls who don't take kindly to other know-it-alls. LOL |

Yeah,I hate having to deal with people that think they know everything.It just makes it that much tougher on those of us that actually do. The purpose of this forum,like any other,is the free exchange of ideas and experience pertaining to a given subject.In this particular forum the general subject matter would be the trials,tribulations,achievments and gratifications associated with being A)black and B)a writer.While I am not a writer,I am an avid reader and excellence,while difficult to quantify,is always a top priority for me.In my work I hold myself to what some would consider an impossibly high standard,that being if it isn't perfect,it isn't good enough.Plain and simple.It must be perfect this time each and every time.I also apply that standard to the way that I live.I strive to live in a way that is above reproach.If person A says to person B "you know what that son of a bitch did?He _________."Person B responds by saying "I don't believe you.He just wouldn't do that."I try to balance all of that with letting you be you.The standards that I set for myself are only for me and people that I'm paying to do something for me.Everyone else gets permission to be human.I would have to say that this forum does carry a high degree of excellence.I'm certain that a few of the more heated discussions would have degenerated into fisticuffs had they been conducted face to face,but,generally speaking,people conduct themselves in a very civilized manner most of the time.Many forums can't make anything resembling that claim.The only way that I've seen to improve a discussion board that works is to improve the quality of the participants and this board has 'quality of participants'in spades (no pun intended). |

Before there is improvement, one must consider the failings or present limitations of the site...consequently, if this point has any values, you must ask different questions that pertain to problems rather than questions that pertain to proscriptives.
Also, you have yet, it seems, to establish yourself here. Like it or not, most folk are reluctant to go anywhere with a stranger...similarly, as my earlier point suggests, you could be stepping on unfavorable ground for your queries point to criticisms without, some may argue, a familarity with the site....of course, you may have been lurking for years...or have changed your name to live out another persona...whatever the scenario you seem to be viewed as a presumpuous stranger...good luck! |

ha ha....perhaps, but if you would point out the problem(s) with my statements and perhaps relate it/them to the cold shoulder and neglect your unattended threads (you've started more than four more or less and few have more than 10 responses) have received then your commentary, perhaps, could encourage an assessment and discussion of how the site/discussion board could be improved.
These are observations and suggest(is this not what most of your threads have been about?), to encourage the potentiality of intellectual engagement. If have offended you or rubbed you the wrong way... for give me. I gone! |

It's my observation, west africa, that people who come to this board don't necessarily feel responsible for keeping it afloat. The audience is mostly lurkers, and "transient" posters who participate only in discussions which interest them. I've also noticed those seeking to use this board as a captive audience for publicizing their books and other maerial don't usually create much of a stir. |

West_africa, what is so wrong that it requires improvements????? List at least five things you read among the various posts that require improvement. Most of us come to this site to relax and have some interesting discussion. We are not writing an article for some major scientific journal in these posts. Relax, take is easy, loosen up your shoes, smile, and then think if "light skinned black women are getting all the attention from men" or if "dark women got the booty". Hee hee heeee. |

You're right, West Africa. There is one person on these boards posting under 3 or more different names. Attempts are made to disguise this sham by having these characters express different points of view and to come across as different types of people but the core personality of their creator cannot be masked. You call it strange. I call it ridiculous. |
