If you haven't heard about it, then you are way in thre dark, since it's been all over tv and newspapers. Oprah had a legends ball where she honored 20 some odd number of women. Not just any women, but the women who have paved the way for us as black people. People like Tina Turner, Ruby Dee, Cicily Tyson, Ms. King, Mya Angelou, and the list goes on & on... She also had a luncheon at her estate in California for all of these women. It was more of an event for the "daughters" to pay tribute to the "mothers." The "mothers" being the grown folk who paved the way for the younger girls, the "daughters", to do what they do. Some of the daughters included were Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks, Brandy, Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, and again the list goes on & on.

In my opinion I thought that this was a wonderful event. It touched me from just watchin it on tv. Shoot, I wanted to turn into a woman and become Beyonce or someone just so I could go. LoL... but I think it was a great way to show our appreciation for just a few of those honorable women that are still here with us today. Even though I wasn't there and I didn't plan the event, I know what that event meant, and I for one think that it will go down in African American history.

I think over-all there were 64 women invited. This event can only bring black people closer, this was one of the best things that Oprah could have done. I am a 17 year old black man, and I'm proud... I can't imagine how black women must feel. Now the little black girls of this world have something to be proud of, and hopefully go back in time to learn about who these legends really were, and what they stand for today, and what they have done for us. US AS A PEOPLE . Oprah quoted Cicily Tyson on her show today, and she said that at the luncheon Cicily came up to her and said that today the mothers have met their daughters... loosely quoted... but I think that that quote alone sums up what that event has meant.... It was a long time comin, but it finally came.....

Edenson,

I'm curious: Why have you felt the need to recite your age (which, admittedly, astounds me given your eloquence) several times within your posts?

And hasn't it been a year or more since you initially mentioned being 17? Sure you haven't already had a birthday that you've forgotten about?

HAHA!

Wow. I'm mad that you even remember who I am. LoL... I did that just so people would remember who I was, seeing as how I haven't posted in a long time... Last time I was on here, I probably was still 17, I don't know. But my birthday is in October... And for the record, I only mentioned my age once within this message... And once in a previous message that I wrote... It might seem like I mention my age a lot because the first time I said how old I was in a post, everyone wanted to debate it... On how they think that I'm a grown ass man trying to be a teenager on the boards... But anyway, if it bothers you, I'll try not to mention it again.....

**It didn't start out that way, but it turned into a Back 'n Forth about Black men's dingys.

Kola,

Yeah. I suppose THAT's an issue Chris lacks knowledge of and experience with.

So I'm sure he'll pay RAPT attention.
