China lashes out at U.S. on human rights

BEIJING - China issued a tit-for-tat report card Thursday on human rights in the United States that lambasted the Pentagon (news - web sites) for "wanton slaughters" abroad, belittled American elections as awash in special-interest cash and accused U.S. courts of deep-seated racial bias.
The Chinese government report, which portrayed the United States as gun-crazed and unfair to minorities, came three days after the State Department released its annual report on human rights abuses in countries around the world, including China.
It marked the sixth straight year that China has countered the American report with one of its own, but this year's was particularly noteworthy because it condemned the United States for abuses by American soldiers at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq (news - web sites).
"In 2004, the atrocity of U.S. troops abusing Iraqi POWs exposed the dark side of the human rights performance of the United States," the report said.
Instead of censuring other nations, the report urged the United States to "reflect on its erroneous behavior" and deal with "tons of problems in its own human rights."
In a report issued Monday, the State Department cited "numerous and serious abuses" in China against petitioners, writers and critics of one-party rule. It said inmates often died in custody, and that more than 250,000 people languished in labor camps without trials. It cited "credible reports" of widespread incarceration of regime critics in high-security psychiatric hospitals.
"We have a strong relationship with China, and the mark of a good relationship is that you sometimes disagree," State Department spokesman Edgar Vasquez said. He declined to comment further on the Chinese report, but said the State Department stood by its own report.
"We think it's well-researched, well-documented and well-substantiated," he said.
China's report listed many of what it said were injustices in the United States for women, minorities, the poor and victims of violent crime. Many of the problems were cited from American newspaper reports. The sources of some of the statistics used in the report weren't given.
"The United States claims to be `a paragon of democracy,' but American democracy is manipulated by the rich and malpractices are common," the report said. "Elections in the United States are in fact a contest of money." It described the 2004 presidential election as riddled with problems, ballot-counting errors and confusion.
"In Florida, the cases of black people being removed from voter registration list or their votes being denied were 10 times higher than people of other races," it said.
"Most prisons in the United States are overcrowded," even though construction of jails is a growth industry, the report added. "California has seen only one college but 21 new prisons built since 1984."
"Poverty, hunger and homelessness have haunted the world's richest country," and racial discrimination permeates society, especially in the court system, the report charged. Nearly 3 out of 10 African-Americans have been in prison at least once, it said.
"Blacks receive, on average, a longer felony sentence than whites. A black person's average jail sentence is six months longer than a white's for the same crime," it said.
Children aren't safe at U.S. schools, the report charged. It said 4.5 million students were molested each year at school.
The report was harshest on the conduct of American soldiers overseas and the way in which the Bush administration conducts its worldwide war on terrorism.
"To avoid international scrutiny, the United States keeps under wraps half of its 20-odd detention centers worldwide which are holding terrorist suspects," it said.
China cited a report that said the American-led invasion of Iraq might have led to 100,000 civilian deaths in the country, "with most victims being women and children."
Such a high death toll should come as little surprise, the Chinese report said.
"The United States frequently commits wanton slaughters during external invasions and military attacks."

This is the same country that just got through arguing that the atrocities in SUDAN are not "genocidal" and should not be of a high priority.
Are they claiming that the U.S. is a worse Human Rights situation than SUDAN?
Is there any American stupid enough to choose living in CHINA for the rest of their lives over living in the United States?

This is, to me, like the Bill Cosby case. None of us who put Bill down for his remarks has clean hands. But he threw the first stone. He was not without sin.
I am sorry, but,to paraphrase Winston Churchill-- If George Bush--or anybody in his administration--called out Satan I would be compelled to mention the Bush record.
I don't know about China. I don't live in China. I live here. I know about what I have been on the receiving end of for 53 years in the United States. What my parents got and their parents and theirs before them for just being born. I know what I have seen since 2000 and it makes me sick. I know everytime he and Rice and the others get on their high horses I know what happened in Florida and Ohio and--quiet as it's kept, right here in St. Louis with hundreds of black people standing outside the Board of Election Commissioners because they have been improperly struck from the rolls and getting the door slammed in their faces promptly at 7:00 pm.
You should have heard how the media joked about it. Ain't that the kind of thing that is supposed to happen only in China?
I don't know about China. Frankly, I don't care. I'm too busy worrying about how George Bush is planning to turn the old folks social security over to the like of Ivan Boesky and Michael Milliken. How he's going to try to draft my young brothers and send them to die so his Uncle Bucky can make a fortune.
I don't live in China. I know how it is supposed to be. I consider it almost laughable that a regime that is as bad as its is supposed to be can say this and be met with muted silence from all over the world. It shows how low we have gone in just a few years--or maybe it just shows how the scales have fallen off people's eyes.
It reminds me of a good friend of mine who had wrecked his family and life cheating on his wife who tried to lecture his daughter when she started running wild.
She told him about himself. "She came back on me," he said looking at me for some support. I just said, "What did you expect?"
It is probably inevitable that the U.S. would one day be called out when it gets on its high horse.

BUT because America is such a great country---BUSH can be VOTED OUT of office, and can only serve 2 terms. Isn't that correct?
China can make no such claim about its government.
And because America is such a great country---YOU get to say anything you want about Bush, IN PUBLIC, and have no fear of being arrested and locked in a dungeon for it---isn't that correct?

America has been here for more than 200 years. Every moment that came before today is part of the CAUSE and EFFECT for whatever goes on in this country. DITTO the rest of the world.

There is NO SINGLE atrocity that happened in the U.S.....that has not taken place to even greater proportion in the Arab world, Africa or the Asiatic Empires. America is the best place in the world to live - if you are not poor or without sick without health insurance or old or homeless.
As for Bush, he has also been over in Russia trying to tell them to shape up and Putkin told him in so many words to "fuck off" and let him run his own country. Every government will put down any factions that are trying to overthrow it. This is what Castro did for 25 years and the United States never invaded Cuba which is 90 miles away from America. Why? Because Cuba didn't have oil? And let somebody try to violently rebel against this Administration and see how human rights would prevail in the face of "treason." People used to refer to John Gotti, the crime boss, as the "teflon Don" because no charges brought against him would ever stick. This is also true of the slippery George W. Bush. He always manages to obscure who and what he really is. Now that the elections in Iraq have been held and the death toll among U.S. troops has exceeded 1500, what's next for the forces of "democracy"? Does Iraq now have an elected president? Does he have a cabinet? A supreme court? No, all it has is a puppet government controlled by America. Weapons of mass destruction? Oops. Sorry couldn't find any but look, we got our stooges in office and hopefully a civil war won't erupt. Humm. Maybe we'll see how diplomacy works before we invade Iran. |

It's far better to be poor, homeless OLD and without health insurance.....IN AMERICA.....than anywhere else in the world.
I am in no way supporting BUSH or his policies. And in 2008, we will probably have Hilary Clinton as president and then the whole scheme changes again.
No matter who the President is....America is always CALLED ON, as the leader of the planet, to chastize those who are the WORST offenders of human rights.
In regards to "CHINA"---I stand by America 100%
And I could give a shit what happens to IRAQ (whose 14 million 2nd and 3rd generation BLACK AFRICAN citizens are there because of the BASRA slave port and the Arabic slave trade--more than 50% of those people are Sudanese and Mauritanian).
And I FULLY SUPPORT the American "puppet" government that has taken over IRAQ.

Maybe the 14 million Africans in IRAQ will now have better living conditions and more rights----and perhaps many of them may even be able to return to Africa.

Maybe America is the best country in the world to live in spite of the way it wastes billions waging war while neglecting all of its deprived masses but - it's hard not to cast a wistful eye at our neighbor Canada who takes good care of its citizens, isn't judgment about social issues, and doesn't try to police the world. |

Norway and Sweden are "socialist" I believe...They also don't have a substantial population of color...nor do they have the imperialist history the US has...I don't know about canada...If u ask west indians in canada if canada takes good care of its citizens some will tell u an emphatic NO! They are being criminalized and jailed as they are here.
If the US is an offender of Human Rights, what does that to do with China's behavior...A wrong is a wrong!
It is better to be poorer in the US because the US, unlike China, has exploited their citizenry and other peoples, nations, and continents, including Asia and Africa, so that it can provide US citizens and even immigrants a comparably better living condition than the poor in other countries...This fact, of course, is ironic, for a Mexican or an African could hypothetically work for an explotive multinational(often the US are major investors) in their own land, lose their job or quit, and then work in the US and improve, relatively speaking, their living conditions and experience some social mobility and presume that the US is the land of the free, home of the brave....It is a land of opportunity, but it has its own problems....REAL problems that citizens who are victims of the US' neglect and nations and peoples in other countries who are direct and visible recipients of US exploitation are unwilling to jump up and down cuz they are relatively living better than the poor in other countries, nations, and continents or because China is "worst"....this is a contradiction black people--africans, west indians, and african americans--need to resolve as we begin to intermarry and politically mobilize as black people. |

Quiet as its kept, China holds the most favored trading partner status with the US, so who is propping up the evil you detailed so eloquently in China? The US.
Who sends their E-trash (computers, old monitors etc) to other parts of the world to contaminate and poison other countries citizens? America.
Its easy from your perspective to say fuck Iraq, but who created and propped up Hussein? America.
Who's businesses are positioned throughout the world, propping up sweatshops, selling weapons and stealing natural resources to support this cushy standard of living you are defending?

Rejecting Iraq and China does not preclude one from similarly rejecting US violations of Human Rights.
Generally when one country dominates another, they initially do so through force and finally through commerce, which means that the US and Europe don't have to kill Africans because the continent is already economically dependent. On the other hand, violence in China and Iraq would lead to greater commerical control for the US...People of African descent in the Americas are partially here on account of African disunity
and Africans failure to take over their own "motaship," as well as Europeans Killing Africans on the COast, irreparably damaging, their economies, and inciting and exacerbating tribal/ethnic strife.
Is it not DIVISIVE to point fingers when black people globally have yet to "UNITE" as African people? |

Give it up, ancestry, Kola is so blinded by her hate for the Arabs that she thinks this country can do no wrong, and her rebuttals on any issue involving them are rarely anything other than exercises in emotional, name-calling rants. So fuck her. The pervasive sinister rigidity of the fundalmentalist wing of any religion always bears watching. The Religious Right in this country is part of fascistic trend that is slowly eroding our freedoms with its literal interpretations of the Bible and its unshakable belief that God is on its side and that all other religions, including other denominations of Christianity, are false. This religious sect is judgmental, vindictive, intolerant and, most of all, dangerous because it seeks to override the separation of Church and State. Furthermore, as a world leader, America is the epitome of hypocrisy in its foreign dealings and this is why it is so universally hated. But our forked-tongue Kola is so busy bad mouthing African Americans that she never seems to realize what a defender she is of white western civilization. |

Wow Kola, I'm so glad I stopped by to read this stuff. I am here and won't stop smiling at the debate you put up here  . You just reduced everyone's words inch by inch, LOL. But you know the facts and they don't; so that's why you win, LOL. I did not know Cynque was a man, wow... you put up a really good fight and you won, lol. You're really good. And I agree with you COMPLETELY about how America has no right to complain. It is the BEST country the world could ever ask for. When a Sudanese man came here he said, "I am in paradise!" It was a shame, but so so true. And he only worked for a job that paid minimum wage, no insurance of any kind whatsoever. But wow, if only people knew why he LOVES America so much. If only people lived his life in Sudan they would know!
And yes,
F---China, LOL they need to be ashamed for killing the girls! Our blacks and all women in Iraq will have little freedom at least now and that may be the only good thing about the war in Iraq; but it's a big thing. Iran might be next... Sudan is in the process.
