Well, Uncle Chris Hayden, has the news reached you yet that Jamie Foxx beat out Clint Eastwood in the Oscar race for best actor? So much for your insight into the Hollywood scene. Other thoughts on the show: Chris Rock was confident and composed and - not that funny. Ol big-hipped Halle looked better than anyone else. Then there's Oprah. She needs to back off. It's Jamie's moment and she just couldn't resist drawing attention to herself by "taking him under her wing," and sharing his glory. Yes, she did look slim, but she also confessed to just coming off a diet that consisted of ingesting nothing but almonds and water. Almonds and water!? Whassup wid dat, girflriend? Don't you luv yourself? And where was Steadman???? Hangin out with her hairdresser? Poor "O" had to tag along with Quincy Jones and his white woman. Meoooow. Not done yet. About Puffy, he needs to go back to the Rapper scene. He's a dufus wanna-be and Prince is such a twit. As for Beyonce? First time I ever heard French sung with a Texas accent. Sacre Bleu! Wheeeeee! Gotta go now and finish off my glass of haterade, but I will end of a positive note, Morgan Freeman is the epitome of dignity and poise. I liked his nice short acceptance speech. |

Cynique: Morgan Freeman is the epitome of dignity and poise. I liked his nice short acceptance speech. Mah: I missed it. An Amber Alert was issued in my area the minute he took the stage...and lasted exactly as long as his speech. I love Morgan Freeman. And I'm convinced Matthew Knowles has mob ties. How else to explain Beyonce's Threepeat? Yvette, thanks for the Salon article! |

Cynique: Right guy and movie--wrong award--once. If I was a baseball player and batted three out of four they would have me peeing in a bottle and if I passed I would be in the Hall of Fame. It really burns you when I'm right, eh? As usual, I didn't watch it. I was reading "God's Gym" by John Edgar Wideman. |

What a cop out, Chris. Everybody, including me, felt that Clint Eastwood had the inside track on winning for best director and picture. It didn't take any genius to reach that conclusion. Everybody also felt that Jamie Foxx was a shoo-in for best actor. Except you - who mistakenly thought you knew something that no one else did. Face it. You didn't know what you were talking about. |

That's not a movie, Uncle Chris, that's a fantasy, dreamed up by a guy who smugly advised everyone against putting their money on Jamie Foxx winning the Oscar for best actor, and is now trying to wipe the egg off his face by taking credit for having jumped on the Clint Eastwood-winning-an-Oscar-for-best-director bandwagon. I know, I know, it's hard to be humble. But give it a try;it builds character. LMAO. |

Cynique: I have no egg on my face. You are still recovering from your near death experience over two weeks sweating to see if Jamie Foxx would lose or not and trying to recover. You are whistling past the graveyard. ROTFL |

Nice try, Chris, but it would've have particularly bothered me if Jamie hadn't won. I am not star struck, and nothing amuses me more than for a "sure thing" not to be a "sure thing", especially in the phony world of show biz. I'm also amused when cocky people spout predictions that fall flat. heh-heh. |

Puleeze. Your irrelevancy is exceeded only by your irrationality. The closest you come to Purple Haze is Grey Smog. Excuse me while I - step on you, and kiss the sky. |

Cynique, "Who Invented the Jump Shot?", a short story in John Edgar Wideman's new collection, God's Gym, is about the Globies barnstorming the midwest in 1927 (and among other things, the narrator explores the consciousness of their young Jewish driver and imagines the Holocaust). It's a really nice collection, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dr. King's Refrigerator by Charles Johnson on the other hand, I thought was just so-so (although I enjoyed it). |
