How awesome.
According to my friend, the great Nigerian scholar, "Chinweizu" (he wrote "The West and the Rest of Us")...his pal TONI MORRISON actually likes my work and thinks I'm "amusing". He's asked me to let him send my next novel to Toni Morrison for a "blurb". She blurbed his books.
He's also written to Chinua Achebe and Nuruddin Farah with PRAISE for my current novel, "Flesh and the Devil".
GOD!! And I love Chinweizu--talk about one FINE AS HELL Black Man with the sexiest voice in creation. I bet I could marry him, but he's a strict POLYGAMIST (yuk!), and if people think I'm radical--Chinweizu is 10 times more radical--he wrote a whole book attacking Wole Soyinka and most people think he's a racist/separatist, which he's not. He and I get along SO FUCKING FANTASICALLY!
WHY...do I always get along so swimmingly with SEXIST PIG black men???? There's like this immediate affinity between me and those types. I just don't understand it.
Anyway, Chinweizu's book "FIELDS OF WONDER", which is out of print, but can be found at PRINCETON UNIVERSITY and OXFORD UNIVERSITY--is now on my all time Top 3 Favorite Books list. He is SOOOOOOO brilliant and the book is breathtakingly beautiful.
Lastly...there's so many people on here that I don't have EMAIL addresses for--like Paula, Crystal, A_Womon----so you don't know that I'm receiving a MEDAL OF HONOR from the SPLA for securing guns and ammunition in the SUDANESE war--it's really a big deal and for all Black Women.
Originally it was just a "reunion", now it's a MEDAL OF HONOR CEREMONY.
You know us "black folks".

to receive Medal
for "Honor and Bravery" from South Sudanese
When: Sunday, March 27th

Location:
Kola Boof, a bestselling author, Sudanese-born American citizen and the highest ranking female member of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army, will receive The Highest Wife/Highest Daughter Award--as well as an SPLA medal for Honor and Bravery to commemorate Kola Boof supplying the rebels of South Sudan with food, medicine, guns and ammunition through connections and speeches she made in Israel.
No "female" in modern history has received a "warrior" Medal from either the Arab Muslim or Black African Sudanese armed forces--Kola Boof is the first.
Several hundred Sudanese...Dinkas, Nuer, Nubians and Shilluks will travel to Omaha, Nebraska for a rally and ceremony to honor Kola Boof. Ms. Boof is expected to give a speech and to sing "the wife songs" in Dinka, Nobbin (Nubian) and Arabic. The event will be videotaped and put on DVD for release in June 2005 to coincide with the release of Boof's autobiography, Diary of a Lost Girl.
Kola Boof was adopted and raised in 1980 by Black Americans, Marvin and Claudine Johnson, in Washington, D.C. She became an American citizen in 1993.
In Egyptian and Sudanese culture, the Highest Wife/Highest Daughter award is actually a coronation proclaiming the recipient to be officially recognized as "Queen" by the people--not by blood. The fact that Ms. Boof is Half-Arab has caused some dissent among members of the SPLA, and sexism, as well, has played a part in the group's "tenuous" problems with controlling Ms. Boof's activism in the past--but Bern Yuot, a representative of the Nuer tribe, is adamant that Kola Boof must be recognized and honored.
Kola Boof's other books available in America include: "Flesh and the Devil", "Long Train to the Redeeming Sudan", "Nile River Woman" and "Diary of a Lost Girl".
Kola Boof is the single mother of two sons--Arnofo (7) and Wombe (5).

Thanks Chris.
My next novel is called "The White Man's Mother" and it should be finished by June--the manuscript, so I'm EXTREMELY excited that Chinweizu is going to ask his superstar friends to give me a blurb. I'm still stunned, to be honest, to find out that they've all actually heard of me!!
And even more excited to have heard the "good things" Ms. Morrison said about MY WORK and about me.
It's so hard not to share these moments--because they come once in a lifetime.
As you know--what happens to me, happens to you.

I can see it now: as you get ready to accept the big prize (Pulitzer, Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, Tony, Nobel or the World Wresting Federation Woman's Championship belt)--suddenly at the back of the room a commotion is heard and your AALBC family barges in, wearing their Sunday Go to Meetin' clothes (with the price tags still hanging off of them) and claiming to be kin and asking where the cement pond and the outhouse are).
The awards committee looks on aghast, waiters offer me and Cynique oer doerves and we decline, tell them we brought our own and pull out a big jar of pickled pig's feet.
Meanwhile, Carey, Thumper and Abm pull out a jug of white lightning and get down.
And you are standing there, eyes shut saying over and over again "Please. Please let me wake up. Please tell me its all a dream!
Anyway it will be a good chapter for your next autobiography. |
